Vltor's New Front Sight

Vltor introduced it at the SHOT show 2007, and is now shipping this new product.

It is the VST-1C Folding Front Sight Assembly.
(This complete Front Sight Base replacement includes the gas block also)

This first version is a clamp on model and held in place with two socket head cap screws.

The front tower fold down for use with an optic.
When the front sight is deployed it is held in place with a twin set of spring tention detents.

It is set up to attach an standard QD sling swivel (swivel not included).

It uses a AK type front sight post (like the super popular Troy Indusries front sights)

These will retail at $225. They should be at your favorate Vltor dealer soon.

Thanks Paul!

Here are some more pics of the ones I got in.

I must be missing something, but wouldn’t you want to avoid putting stress on a clamp-on gas block? Those sling points might be OK on a pinned gas block, but seem like a bad idea on a friction-fit item…

I’m all over VLTOR’s products in general, but I’m not tracking the pic rail on a flip up that would block the sight if it were used? I guess it differentiates this from the PRi’s out there and all…

I agree. Somebody goofed on this one.

The rail is so that you can slide something over it to mount onto the rail (not to mount something on it).

C4

I actually thing it would hold just fine. Is it the best choice for sling placement? No I don’t thin it is, but if you have no other choice…

C4

When is the pinned version coming out

If they machine it flat they accomplish the same thing, there’d be nothing impeding sliding something on to the rail.

I don’t get it either. I really don’t get it at $225 retail.

They are making one that has to be pinned in (like a normal FSB) and should be available soon.

Sure, but wouldn’t look as nice.

Let’s look at what the competition offers.

PRI $179 - Front sight wobbles, cannot install anything over it and doesn’t offer a sling mounting point and locks in the up position.

GG&G $173 - Front sight wobbles, cannot install anything over it and locks in the up position.

I also think that the VLTOR looks better than those two.

So it is more money? Yes. Is it better quality? Yes (IMHO).

Oh. now I get it. It’s for “looks”.

YHM $85. If it’s good enough for SDI it’s good enough for me.

Sure. Doesn’t a rail look nicer than a big ole slab of metal up there?? It does to me. Looks are of course a personal thing so I don’t fault you if you don’t like the looks of it.

YHM also wobbles, looks like a turd and barely holds onto the barrel (I know as I have installed a couple).

There are several “SDI” names out there so I am not sure who you are talking about. If it is Simply Dynamic, then he was issued it by BW and really had no choice in the matter.

This SDI.

FWIW, the PRI I just got last week has no wobble – either side-to-side (as I’ve seen in two previous I’ve owned) or front-to-back (but they’ve never wobbled front-to-back). I don’t know if I got lucky with this one or if they’ve improved their machining process or program.

Unfortunately, that improvement is offset by poor locating of the gas tube pin hole and the gas port hole. The gas tube pin hole is just a little bit low, preventing good alignment with the gas tube pin hole. I had to file quite a taper into the pin to get it to ‘jump the ledge’ and insert fully.

They are also .040 inch rearward from all other folding sights and removed sight bases that I measured. The gas port hole is of course large enough to compensate, but nevertheless the gas tube is further back in the gas key.

I finally got ahold of one, and it seems pretty squared away. I like that it doesn’t lock up, but that it is still a pretty positive lock into place. I’ll figure out more about it once I get a chance to play around with one that installed.

As already noted, the price isn’t cheap, but its inline with others, and it also appears to be a nice step forward in product development for gasblock/ sight assemblies.

I’ll buy that though LT’s levers and Magpul’s rail covers make it a non-issue to me. Not a big deal since there’s always the lo-pro VLTOR GB and Troy front for the rest of us.

I agree.

a lot of price justification going on with this one. here and elsewhere.
I would not say the price is inline with others, more like it is in front of that line.
nice , but not that nice.

Oh yeah, I told them using the YHM was a bad idea as well.
