Vltor vs Magpul

SGCUSA.com Vltor has filed suit against Magpul for patent infringement. Vltor alleges that Mapul’s ACS stock violates Vltor’s patents. More info and full filing at SGCBlog - http://www.sgcblog.com/?p=282

sigh

Here we go again.

I can see the resemblance between the MAGPUL’s ACS and VLTOR’s E-MOD stock. Hmmm…It’s going to be interesting to see who comes out on top. Wait, wait…I foresee…I foresee ACS stocks being bought by the dozen…People being trampled at the gun shop, trying to reach the Magpul display! Oh, ohhh, the humanity!

well this should be interesting… we now have two widely loved, excellent companies going at it. hard to take sides.

this is why we have patent laws, however. i’ve wondered many times in the past how all these manfers putting out such similar products dont ever infringe on each other. i think a lot of the time, infringement suits just aren’t pursued.

BOHICA

Who should get the lube?

Wow. That just increases the internal tension in one of my rifles, which is currently sporting an AAC suppressor/flash-hider, LaRue rail, Noveske barrel, VLTOR receiver, and all the Magpul fixings. Having all that stuff together must be like dividing by zero.

It might be selfish, but as long as this doesn’t affect the ETA on the new Vltor imod stock, I don’t care.

I’m sick of all these patent infringement lawsuits. Seriously? Every time someone comes out with a new product they get sued anymore. Its you and I pay for it, too, as companies have to build legal suit costs into their operations, and adjust the price accordingly for the products we buy.

Obvious copies with someones name on them like all the China copies? Sure do something about that. But now its…“your product kinda looks like mine so Im going to sue you.”. Theres only so many ways to build a damn stock, and some products are going to have characteristics of others. Look at all the Gen 2 carbines stocks there are out there that are all nearly identical. A2 pistol grips and stocks? Better sue.

I don’t know. Truth be told, I had the ACS, and thought it was alright.

Right now I’m waiting on the iMod. I think MagPul has some winners on their hands with the UBR and CTR, but I’m not overly thrilled with the ACS.

i personally thought the ACS was basically just a disappointing Emod ripoff… but i also cant help losing respect for a company that’ll run to Big Daddy court system and taddle on their friends. so i’m taking no side, at the moment. i love both companies, i hope they can come to a peaceful solution.

hmm… perhaps the moderators should keep this thread on a tight rope- the potential for good-name bashing is real.

My personal observation between stocks such as the ACS, EMOD, and CTR depends on an absolute co witness or a lower 1/3 co witness. I get a much better cheek weld with the ACS or Vltor when the sight is mounted lower on the flat top. I run an aimpoint in a LaRue M68 mount and that give me a lower 1/3 co witness. With my current setup, I can’t get a good cheek weld with stocks that have battery compartments. The CTR seems like it’s the way to go in that regard.

I think this will end in the shitter quickly, so I’m locking it.
