Does the Extended Mid-length VIS give a long enough sight radius on an 18" barrel(with mid-length gas system) or should I go with the Rifle length VIS (wondering if the extra weight and $$ is worth it).

I think it would be just fine. Personally though, I like 12" rails with 18" barrels.
