Vltor VIS-KM

Has anyone got one of these yet? They are officially out now - finally. They look really nice and according to their website a little bit lighter than the Mega MKM sets and also feature a heat shield which is nice.

Anyone? Apparently they really just came out a couple of months ago. Because of all the delays it seems like these may have fallen off the radar a bit. It seems like a viable option albeit an expensive one.

nice photos stickman

Yea, I kinda want that in my life. Looks great.

Wonder if it’s got the same weight penalty as their old rails with the bottom rail attachment method.

Much lighter.

Still too heavy for my likes, like all the mono uppers seem to be. I do like the ability to use standard rings rather than a cantilever mount with a longer scope, but not enough to accept the extra weight.

Weight Length Overall Length Interior
Diameter MSRP
VIS-KM7 16.5 oz 7.5 in 14.496 in 1.125 in $599.95
VIS-KM9 18.8 oz 9.5 in 16.496 in 1.125 in $624.95
VIS-KM10 20.6 oz 10.6 in 17.596 in 1.125 in $649.95
VIS-KM12 22.4oz 12.88 in 19.871 in 1.125 in $674.95
VIS-KM14 24.1 oz 14.45 in 21.446 in 1.125 in $699.95

That VIS-KM14 would fix my SPRish build up right. Do want.

While most of the usual suspect dealers do not (surprisingly) have them in stock or even catalogued , vltor themselves do have them in stock ready to ship if anyone is interested

Given that “overall length” seems to be about 7" longer than the rail, I’m going to assume those weights include the upper receiver. (As it should…being one piece and all)

Those weights aren’t bad at all for what you’re getting, in my opinion. A standard AR15 upper with a BCM KMR 13" (one of, if not the, lightest handguard on the market) is what? 17oz?

So you’ve got a ~6oz weight penalty for a monolithic, beefier upper.

The vltor also has a heat shield while adds a tad bit of weight is something I would like to have. The weight of this new upper is not too bad- at all imo. Might have to try one.

I’ve been lusting after a Vltor VIS-KM for some time, but to me Aero Precision’s M4E1 is a good alternative, especially for a precision build.
The handguard comes in KeyMod, M-Lok and quad rail and attaches directly to the upper.

Thanks! I was wondering about this, specifically.

i must be some kinda weirdo. my factory ddm4v1’s omega x 12" fsp cutout weighs 14.6oz, my wifes lancer lch5 extended weighs 11.6, my casv-s is 14.3oz and i just picked up the new casv-km12 that is listed at a whopping 22oz (must be a misprint the one in my kitchen weighs 17.3-17.4), i’m going to switch it with the casv-s (i need more hand room, it feels crowded), and then use the casv-s on an 11.5 sbr build.

honestly after years of week long hike in hunting and multi week pleasure hiking with heavy bolt rifles and/or large packs. not to mention hiking for turns at altitude with snowshoes, skies, ski boots, poles, avi gear (probes, shovels, transponders and such), and o.s.o. gear (oh shit overnight) i just don’t get the weight obsession with rifles and i own titanium utensils and cook wear hehe.

as long as i can bring a rifle in around 9-10 lbs, unloaded but otherwise ready to roll, then i’m a happy man. balance is much more important to me.

these weights don’t add up. how can the vis-km12 listed at 22.4 oz only weigh .4 oz more than the casv-km12 listed at 22 oz? when the vis-km12 has a 10 oz receiver built into it.

i’m gonna need to weigh my cavs-km12.

ok i just weighed my casv-km12 on two different calibrated postal scales (my wife collects some weird stuff) and it weighs in at 17.30 on one and 17.40 on the other.
they must have a misprint on their website. or there is less gravity in my kitchen hmmmm…excuse me i’m gonna see how high i can jump.

this thread reminded me Grant i need a CAS-FS but don’t see them on your website. everybody appears to be out off stock :frowning:

when I compared the weight of these to a similar length MUR + geiselle rail that were almost equal

never mind

I emailed VLTOR with no response, but does anyone know if there are there any concerns with using 6061 in the upper receiver vs 7075 in strength and wear difference in the bolt carrier raceway? I think this has been going over before with there first version but I was wondering if different manufacturing techniques are used now or if they are the same.
my main concern the strength of the receiver barrel extension when forces are applied to the barrel it self and not the rail in cold temps or am i splitting hairs. Not that I will be expecting that kind of abuse on a rifle but i like and enjoy learning and hearing about the technical side of products.

Im also interested in how the removable bottom attaches and detaches.

Hoping to find a review soon from someone who has one or tested one.
