Do all MUR uppers now have this cut-out at the front?

All of mine do. they are however about 2+ years old. Son’t know if there has been a change.
I have the Noveske version and it does not have the machined taper between the pin hole and the forward rail. I seem to remember them changing designs so there could be generational differences.
I’ve seen sone pics of Noveske builds that are solid all the way to the barrel nut threads; IIRC the change was done so that Larue rails would fit. But it seems to me that the whole point of the MUR is to make a stiffer reciever; the area where the material was removed would seem to me to be a critical area as far as barrel flex is concerned.
my new noveske does not have the cut, it is full all the way out. So??? wonder the diff?
I read somewhere that the change was made because the keeper on the Larue rails wouldn’t fit on the ones that extended all the way out.

We have a special model MUR with the anti rotation pin hole for our SWS rail.
We kept the original profile when Vltor made them more compatible with different rails because we didn’t need to fit different rails tabs/keeper.
I don’t want or need the cut either, but I’m stuck with it.
Bought one last Fall that looked just like the pic above.
That was a good observation. I have personally been going back and forth between selecting the Noveske N4 Light Reece Low-Profile Upper which utilizes the MUR receiver and an 11" SWS Rail, or going with the BCM BFH Mid-Length Upper w/ MUR receiver and DD Lite 12" Rail. After you posted, I went back and re-examined pics of the MUR as shown on the websites of the 4 main vendors I’ve been keeping up with. I discovered that pictures of the MUR on both BCM and G&R Tactical show the older, beefier-looking profile that is solid all the way out to the barrel threads, while the pics shown on the Vltor and Ranier sites depict the newer profile with the cut-out at the front like the one you have.
I got back in touch with one of the Vltor Reps and he cleared this up for me. It seems that all of the new production Vltor MUR upper receivers now come with the relief cuts incorporated on the front end so as to more easily accommodate the attachment of Troy and LT-type Rails. The old-school solid version is no longer available anywhere except through Noveske (the MUR which is manufactured exclusively for Noveske is customized to their specs and retains the original profile as indicated earlier by Todd K.). The gentleman also stated that pics of the MUR as shown on the BCM and G&R sites must simply be older photos that have yet to be updated. Should anyone purchase a MUR through either of these 2 vendors (or any other vendor), they will receive their MUR having the new profile relief cut near the front like that shown in your picture.
