On the VLTOR MUR upper with FA, it looks like the shell deflector and upper are milled as a unitary piece from a billet of aluminum, but on the one without the FA, it looks like the shell deflector is riveted on to the upper. Also, on the one without the FA, behind the shell deflector it looks like there is a little cover with the VLTOR logo riveted into place. Is this correct, or am I interpreting the photos incorrectly? Thanks.
both FA and non-FA models of the MUR are the same receiver, with the FA assembly and shell deflector-only assembly being removable (by the manufacturer) options.
…considering this upper without the FA on a light(er) weight build. I assume this has M4 ramps but unless the statement that this upper is “…made to fit all AR15/M16/M4 rifles and carbines…” means M4 feed ramps or unless I’m missing something, I don’t see where it specifically states that on their website: http://www.vltor.com/mur.htm
If anyone has experience with this upper and can answer whether or not it has M4 feed ramps please respond. I’ll also try to contact them next week but thought I’d ask here first.
If you are interested in the forward-assist-less MUR as a lighter alternative to a standard upper receiver, you might be disappointed. It weighs almost as much as a standard upper with forward assist. Reference this thread for weights of a few uppers.
Not worried about upper weight too much but if I can easily save a couple ounces while still getting a quality mil-spec part, I may as well. I can only remember 2 or maybe 3 times I’ve used the FA on my duty weapons in over 24 years and thought I’d try this on this particular build for my wife.
this applied to the earlier billet MURs. the current forged MURs will fit all rails designed for a standard upper, as far as i know, including the TRX.
