As many times as I’ve stripped these damn set screws, I would curse you 100x for doing that if I had to disassemble the damn thing. :p:p
I just use red loctite and a proper dimple on the barrel.
We only use the set screw to keep the block and barrel aligned while the pin is installed, never seen on staked.
If you are going to drill for a dowel pin buy a D/P reamer to finish size the hole for a correct fit.
It’s actually not too bad, as long as you remember to knock the staking back before trying to move the screws. Depends on the way you move the material. If you stake too deeply or too far away from the hole, you really pinch the screw in there and it can be a real PITA. If you go close to the screw and do a superficial displacement, the staking can be undone easily. Staking was more of a thought experiment for me. It really isn’t necessary on a dimpled barrel with loctite, especially if it is pinned like a Noveske.
yeah, I forgot to note that a 31 drill is undersized and if you’re using a 1/8" pin it will need to be reamed slightly. Sorry about that, too much late night posting.
Is that a 5/8" or 3/4" length pin?
