I’m not quite clear on your meaning. This is an NFA upper. I don’t think there are any rails that will fit this configuration that will allow you to mount a light at the 12 position.
What I’m wondering is: Is there a benefit to having a FSB which is only acting as a sight instead of running a 12" rail over the barrel and putting a fixed LMT/Troy/etc sight or something behind a x300?
This set up is for those who prefer to have a fixed FSB with slightly more sight radius, have a longer rail and still maintain an short package. All things considered I will probably mount the X300 on the side as I don’t think the little backsplash/ shadowing will be that bad based on my previous experience.
That counts as a NO CALL/NO SHOW for the shoot.
Put some rounds through this upper later in the day. Incredibly smooth with the A5 lower set up. The other guy with me couldn’t believe how smooth the weapon cycled and stay on target.
We fired some PMC bronze, XM193 and some Federal AE 223 and 20 rounds of Herters 62gr. HP. Next outing will be to get a good zero and then some accuracy testing. Maybe even som chrony testing as well.
How about some better/more pictures please.
I’ll throw some up tomorrow.
We were hoping to see your vehicle come around the hill yesterday.
That Vltor A5 is fantastic. When it runs Herters and other shit Russkie ammo, and it feeds and cycles perfectly, you Know something is done right.
Were gunna get you out there at 0 dark thirty for some fun and Gunz. ![]()
My good conscience will not allow me to get up that early- on a weekend no less! We popped over to the Goodyear for our deeds. The weather was warm but nice.
He’s definitely up for a night shoot if I can get you two Yahoos onboard.
It was PERFECT Sunday morning. Didn’t even need my coat. The wind starts blowing like a MOFO between 10 and Noon.
I have a Kino upper and I’ve been using the A5 buffer setup with it. I have found the same thing…it’s very smooth shooting. Anybody that tries it loves it.
Also, one question: Is there a particular reason you didn’t use the ‘cutout’ version of the C-4 rail? I use MOE handguards on mine currently, but the C-4 cutout rail looks like an interesting option. I know it could just be personal preference or lack of need for extended rail surface, but I guess I’m thinking more about silencer fitment issues or something like that.
Just finished my Vltor upper, purchased a Vltor complete lower. I like it but I have to say the Vltor factory installed trigger absolutley sucks.
Tryed oiling it but the trigger has more creep then any other AR rifle Ive built or handled. I don’t know it almost feels like it semi binds as I press the trigger.
Hoping after a bunch of bullets the trigger settles down to a reasonable feel.
Getting ready to build two more M4’s, had planned on using Vltor lowers for both, re-thinking that now, sadly I’d expected more from Vltor.
Most likely will use the Colt lowers as I know what to expect.
To Vltors credit the craftsmanship is outstanding, Hoping to shoot more and come back with a stellar report on the lower. Has anybody else had this experience.

vary nice, that’s the exact upper I had in mind for my first sbr, except with a larue rail. I love the kino style upper as well as the dissy upper’s. I wish BCM would hurry up and release their dissy, first off getting a quality ready made upper in that particular configuration is difficult enough, second BCM is the $h¡t;)
Saw a Vltor lower half at STG firearms on Saturday… Very cool…
Mark, the Vltor is very cool, Ive had the trigger apart a couple of times now and it still has a ton of creep, I’ll fix it with an upgrade to a Grisselle trigger 1st of next month.
The other part I changed out is the sling base, I just really like the magpul one as it gives lots of options without having to plug a QD in on the other side.
for under 350.00 complete, minus the stock you can’t go wrong.
