Before someone says do a search… I did. Anyway, why does everyone knock Noveske for " not having a black insert in the extractor". When right from their web site they have double Orings from Viton. My question is what is the difference between this and what everyone says is so superior? In my opinion if there is a difference at all it is like a $ 3 swap out… correct?
You have to realize that a Viton O-ring is not an extractor insert. They are two completely different parts. One goes inside the extractor spring and the other goes around/over the extractor spring. You also have to realize that Viton 2 is a material, not double Viton O-rings. It appears that you are confusing the parts of an extractor assembly and material specs.
Thanks, but maybe I did not explain this correct the first time. I totally understand what each item is and what it is for. My point is, each is designed to improve reliability correct? Then what is the advantage or disadvantage of the extractor insert over a O-ring Viton ? Furthermore, an extractor insert is what $3, why such ridiculaous statements (by some I have read on here) that Noveske " does not use good BCGs". This is almost always the reason I see for their justification is that they use a blue insert instead of a black.
I am just trying to figure out the logic of this and what real advantage (if any) does an extractor insert have over the Viton O-rings.
From another site- The Noveske N4 hits on all cylinders! The one blank on the chart is the black insert. While this looks surprising, the black insert is not the only way to get a carbine to extract. O-rings, Defender Rings, and double springs also work. Noveske’s bolt uses a Viton-2 O-Ring over the extractor spring. This should be considered a “check” for that blank, but the chart is limited.

I am not trying to make this a contest of who is better BCM-Noveske-Colt etc… I am trying to honestly figure which is better and why. A black insert vs O-rings or a Defender insert etc…
The reason is, I have 4 Noveske rifles and actually found myself getting caught up in this mess of which is better. Then I stopped to logically think about it and figured the reason for a black insert, O-ring or whatever is what? (see above) So, if a Viton O-ring does the same job as a black insert why the fuss?
The o-ring/rifle spring is far better (with blue or black buffer) than a black buffer in a rifle spring for a carbine.
An HD/M4 spring with black buffer is good, a rifle spring with black buffer is not for a carbine/SBR.
The HD/M4 spring, black buffer, and o-ring has caused a few failures with the extractor unable to clip over the rim in our testing.
