Video: Hush subsonic ammo

Well I can say I’m impressed. For $17/box of good high quality gunfood for my suppressed setups I really can’t complain. I have tried Winclean, American Eagle, Fiocchi 147 & 158’s, Magtech, UMC, Speer, you name it. And the only round that came close to the sound levels was the Fiocchi 158’s which are pretty damn hard to find and won’t run in some guns due to a longer OAL.

So I stumbled on this, ordered in a case of each and got to shooting. While I wasted more than half of my stash shooting in to dirt in the name of science (no bullet impact noise) all the while using one camera to capture all the angles you’re about to see. It was all worth it if it helps out my fellow NFAers.

Hope you enjoy the video!

Neat. I’ll have to try some out. Have you tried Winchester W “train” 147 gr 9mm? That’s my current go-to suppressor ammo. Runs my Glock 19 reliably with a TiRant on it and is pretty quiet. I’ve not shot the Fiocchi heavy stuff to compare though.

With what people pay for factory 147gr a reloading set up would pay for itself quickly! Getting a 9mm silencer is what actually what got me into reloading my own. I find my hand loads to be quieter than anything factory loaded.

Great video, thanks for the effort. Also, is it my imagination or did it seem like the Ti-Rant was noticeably quieter than the other cans?

That TRP looks bad to the bone! Just gotta love a suppressed 1911  I get a bit of chub every time I pay mine a visit.

Thanks for the compliments. Yeah I wish I had time to reload. I really do, but between my job at the FD and coming home to run my YouTube/Facebook all the while planning and filming new reviews. I barely have time to go out and do something fun lol. Maybe when I retire from the FD.

It has a great tone thats for sure but in person all the top tier cans sound the same save for some FRP on the large volume Ospreys.

‘My friends hand loads, while quiet, aren’t as consistent as this’

uhh… wut?

Isn’t that the point of reloading? Consistency through time invested?

Ehh not necessarily, I for one don’t reload for the super consistent performance. Ain’t nobody got time to count out individual grains haha! Personally I reload to save money spent on gas, and overpriced ammo when I can hand load my own sub-sonics. My powder throw isn’t the most consistent on the press that I have but that’s due to the powder that I use. Flake powder in the Hornady powder throw sometimes binds up in the progressive press, and it’s not always perfect but it’s only a half of a grain +/- , and I usually always load low. It’s safer, more fun to shot, and much more economical on powder consumption. As long as my 9mm and .40 loads are subsonic I could care less about having a few that are a little warmer than the others  As I said I load on the weak side anyways.

I loaded for competitive long-range shooting for a bit and if you don’t have consistency you have nothing. No sense loading by hand if you aren’t at least capable of matching factory ammo consistency which isn’t hand loaded. You should be able to crank out pretty quickly if you’re in a hurry and meet that consistency. Taking 10-20% more time to assure consistency is one of the big reasons to hand load. I would argue that it’s the biggest reason and the rest is just fluff. Those who think they save a boat load of money usually value their own time at $0USD. I do not. If I take the time to hand load rounds I’m making sure they’re as consistent as possible so to me this idea is foreign.

Meh, my loads aren’t 100 percent the same and with my setup I accept that. However spending less time on the bench and more time in the booth is what I value. Are my loads super consistent and every shot feels exactly the same as the last? No, but they are close enough together that I’m not worried about scrutinizing and wasting time on trying to make everything perfect. If it cycles, places good on the target, is cost effective and most importantly safe then who in there right mind would want to spend hours of time loading when you can spend more time having fun on the range? I don’t shoot benchrest or 1000 yards, or anything precise, I’m shooting 20 yards and in with suppressed handguns so what’s the point of absolute perfection at that distance when it will make minimal performance gains on paper? Long range shooting with a 6mm or .338 yeah I can see the need for perfection, but for pissing ammo away with some suppressed handguns and having a good time > than spending hours upon hours at the press for less fun.

Just my opinion. Sorry for the thread hi-jack haha.

Awesome video and thank you for sharing. You mentioned that the closest sounding round are Fiocchi 158’s. I know it’s subjective, but how close? More tone than anything else? The 158’s are the cream of the crop in my book and I’ve never seen/heard anything close to it in 9mm. The only caveat to the Fiocchi is sometimes it would not cycle my Glocks.

Yeah the tone is close. I’m going to try and meter some when Dave comes down to film some more Liberty footage.
