Bought a Ranger 78 M Grip recently after learning the liner lock is actually a push button lock and is fairly easy to use versus the initial impression that it was for people who like a challenge.
The one hand opening feature was still awkward for me versus the similarly featured One Hand Trekker/Soldier 08 models either due to the odd shaped thumb hole, being slightly larger, or combination.
Started looking at it and thought the hole might lend itself to an add on opener and ordered a Thumb stud with 2.5mm opening. A stud with narrower opening should work, but this was the smallest I could find before having enough of the browsing.
Got it in and it was perfect for opening the main blade
only figuring out the next day that the offside of the stud interfered with the saw.
The initial plan was to tap the side with jimping(to use as intended) for a set screw, but after looking at it decided there wasn’t enough meat to leave a margin of error drilling and tapping while using hand tools.
So I went with cutting off the jimped area and installing it backwards from how it was intended.
I cut most of the now additional material off with a Dremel wheel and started cleaning up the cut/trimming to get needed clearance by chucking the stud in a drill and removing material with a mill bastard file.
Once the clearance for the saw blade was good, the stud got the 2 sharp edges radiused with the file and drill followed by final clean up with a sanding sponge.
Much easier to open now without looking quite as ghetto as a glob of epoxy would have.
