Vet bills

I am of the opinion that no cost is to high for my 4 legged family members. I would no more put one of them down over cost than I would a human family member.

Normal for a vet in a more heavily populated area. Their costs are more. It is however out of line for a rural vet. For my pointer her full set of shots would ba about 120 or so. If I take her to vets where I live it would be double that. Mainly due to the higher cost of buildings and some of their equipment and more staff.

Don’t feel too bad. I said the same thing about pet insurance and didn’t do it, and now I am out-of-pocket in excess of $15,000.00 (yes, fifteen THOUSAND) after various surgeries and treatments for our two English Bulldogs in the last 3 years.

If you want to keep your blood pressure down, stay off of TOS. There’s a thread over there about spending more than $200 on a dog, and talk of killing them with a hammer or antifreeze-soaked hot dogs.

If I may be pardoned the comment just this once - this is an excellent example of how that site is filled with complete fucktards.

Bullshit tough guy talk from a bunch of cowards. Same mentality where people talk about killing neighborhood cats for the “fun of it”.

It takes a real man to love an animal.

Regarding thousand and thousands of dollars for a vet bill…

I love my animals very much…but they are not humans, and Im not going to go thousands into debt over an animal.

I grew up on a ranch as my parents used to show and raise horses. We always had dogs and cats. Maybe its just the way I was raised but we always put “pets” down when they got something very severe. Ive seen a few horses get put down right in front of me, and some dogs/cats over the years. We had a cat get pinched in the garage door, and broke its back. Could still crawl around with two legs, and we could have spent thousands on it but I just took it around back and put it down. No need to make the animal suffer because of an emotional attachment. We had a dog when I was younger that was quite old, and maggots started burrowing holes in her back. My dad put her down. I watched my parents show horse, an arabian female, get euthanized. She was in her early 20’s, and came down with collick. She was struggling for a few days, and finally had to put her down. My parents contracted a back hoe, and we burried her in the middle of our arena.

My family was very much animal people but IMO its ridiculous to spend that kind of money on an animal. Life goes on, and now I have 3 dogs of my own that I love very much. However if one of them came down with something Id put them down too. I just don’t see putting an animal on the same plane as humans…If you do you cannot justify hunting, meat production, or anything else. My pets get well taken care of. Ive spent a lot of money at vets, too, but there is a line Ive drawn.

Too funny. Of course you are spot on.

I spent well over $30K on two cats who had cancer. One went fairly quickly, the other set the vet record for the longest cancer survivor on monthly chemo. It was over $1,500 per month for quite a while for one of them. While I am not a huge animal lover, they are part of the family.

You guys do know that PETA has gotten congress to make pet insurance mandatory too.

Just kidding, but don’t give them any ideas.

This is how I feel, as long as I’m able to come up with the $$$ than I will do what I can. I’ve racked up over $2k in bills from my 2 Maine Coon cats since September of last year, my 7 yo Simon had a Feline Lower Urinary Tract Disease that would have cost over $5k in surgery which I would have had performed if they thought that he had a decent chance of survival since one of his kidneys were twice its size and growing quickly :frowning: After seeing his X-Ray and the dozens of blockages he had through his urinary tract, I made the choice to put him down which broke my heart. My other MC Mia went through mourning from Simon passing away and ended up losing her appetite which caused her to have a liver problem confirmed by a blood panel, she is much better after the medication and getting her to eat normally again. My Wife and I’s past year has been like the rough parts of Marley and Me.

Damn this vicodin is making me sappy

they give out shots at Walgreen’s, and other places, by a mobile vet, 15 for rabies and 15 for the other 4, I think you can get all your shots for about 50 bucks, shots are shots, pay the big bucks when they need a vet, I have 1500.00 in one dog and 650.00 in another in the last 3 months ouch. try Tractor supply they do it too, I see no problem saving a little on the shots, does not make you a cheap owner just a smart one. My dogs all get holistic food.

Our pup needed a knee surgery last summer, $400 just for that.

I keep forgetting to ask my wife about the specifics of our dog insurance. Out of curiosity what was the surgery for? My wife is bugging me to get a bulldog now and I don’t know much about them. Do they commonly have health issues or is this more of an isolated event?

You said it nicer than I would have. They need to get a hammer slammed on their big toes.

over $10,000 in vet bills over his 3 year life. My best friend and had to put him down finally, but I got 2 of the fuckers that got him. First 2 slide shows are quite unpleasant… the others are really good. You can read the Info On Attack page if your into melodrama.

I just read your story of the attack on your best friend, I truly feel for you and hope you’ve recovered from your loss. I’m a little overwhelmed after reading it…

Dude, I teared up bad reading that, thinking about what your dog went through, that was awful.

I say the following knowing full well the implications of what I am saying; those dogs would have been dead on the spot, and then if no one stopped me I would have gone after the owner.

I’ve seen too much cruel death in my life for a motherfucker like that to get away with being that negligent even after being warned.

I love my dogs second only to my wife and kids. Don’t fuck with my dogs.

Marcus Latrell is more man than me, not just for his "Lone Survivor’ ordeal, but for not killing all four punks on the spot when he found them after they just killed his dog.

I pay about $150 total for all that. I also see no reason why Parvo should be every six months, I do all my shots annually.

Damn man, just damn.

Yeah, there are a gaggle of ghouls over there for sure.

The transient drug dealer, aka Paul Barracliff ,who the police refused to arrest or fingerprint even after being found guilty at 3 trials & speaking directly to police about having needed “public pretenders” (his reference to public defenders) in the past and claiming to have had no ID, no wallet, no known address & no known work history just got on his bus and left town. There are useless warrants out for the arrest of his “obvious to all” alias. I’m sure he has new attack dogs on his Hippie Festival Bus and is at a big music festival somewhere selling his drugs and endangering all those around him completely immune from any recourse of law.
