Vest w/ kydex mag holders?

Howdy folks-

I’m a civilian and I don’t have a real use for a vest setup. But for when I do get a chance to get some better training, I believe I’ll need one just to cart mags around. I’d rather just do one or two rifle mags in belt pouches, but I don’t know how to store all the ‘refills’.

I don’t, however, think I can tolerate all the damn straps and pull strings for mag retention on a vest. I know why they’re there, and that’s a great system for LEO or military. But it seems like some kydex out front would be a nice compromise. Is there a vest using kydex up front? Are there kydex pouches that would work with a MOLLE system? Stupid idea? :smiley:

Right now I just keep a milsurp mag pouch attached to my uh-oh gun, it holds three mags, an FAK, light, and cell phone.

Kydex inserts with a felt cover on the inner surface, holds GI and Pmags well, and they come out when pulled.

Same level of retention (if not the same style), lighter, costs a touch less than the Eagle

That Eagle looks just about perfect, if there’s kydex in it. Very simple, and I can add or subtract a few things if needed. Nice. I like the other too, but I just can’t stomach anything elastic on a weapon/accessory carrier.

You could also try the ITW Fast Mags. I haven’t tried them yet, but it seems a few people on the forum have used them successfully. It is sold on the Blue Force Gear website (see Riverine’s link) as well.

I got one of these and I love it. Simple and sexy with great retention. With full mags in it I can hold it upsidedown and give it a few shakes without the mags falling out, yet they still slide out freely when I need them. It’s quick to get on, too. Good kit. My only gripe is that its an “X” harness and not an “H”.

While I wouldn’t use it for my .mil fighting load, I think it’s great for a “Katrina zombie infestation” situation. Mine has an IFAK and some pistol mags on it.

Got mine at SKD tacitcal for about 65-70$.

Ive been running just to Kydex rifle mag holders on my belt and then using a dump pouch to put my refills in. the Dump pouch is right behind my last mag holder and very easy to get too. It works well for me since I just let my empty mags drop and if I have to do a tac reload my not so empty mag goes in one of my cargo pockets on my pants and is still very easy to get to(I have LONNNNNGGGGGG Arms)
