Very well written blog by a Leftist on the “Assault Weapons Ban.”

Why confuse an emotional response with the facts?

The take away from this is that FIREARMS RIGHTS ARE NOT A CONSERVATIVE or LIBERAL ISSUE! It is an AMERICAN CITIZEN issue, and there are allies and enemies all over the political spectrum.
If firearms owners wish to have continued security of their natural rights, we’re going to have to STOP trying to fit the world into this political paradigm. Honestly, nothing about firearms enthusiasts annoys me more than the assumption that being a gun owner is somehow linked to being a conservative or Republican. It is an example of very narrow-minded and ignorant thinking (and unfortunately typical of a lot of other issues that American citizens have opinions on, too).

The #1 thing that firearms owners can do to ensure our continued ability to exercise our Constitutional rights is to recognize that there are firearms owners and enthusiasts all over the political spectrum, and there are enemies to firearms freedom from all over the political spectrum.
By banging the conservative vs liberal drum, you automatically alienate anyone from ‘the other team’ who may just strongly agree with you on this issue and may just be a powerful ally in trying to preserve a common interest.
Come out from behind your pigeonholed political (and social, economic, religious, etc) ideologies and recognize we are talking about a HUMAN right here that has no political basis or bias.
