Went to Vegas last week for some time off. Went with my buddy and few other friends north of city limits in the desert to do some carbine and pistol drills right before sundown. I had 400rds of old MFS Zinc plated .223 left and 60rds of American Eagle XM856 tracers I wanted to shoot off. The zinc ammo had little to no recoil, not very accurate and felt underpowered. I had one failure to fire that fired when I rechambered it later. No big deal, its cheap practice ammo. I was surprised when I saw this though
The XM856 produced some fireballs as well
Rifle is a BCM 16" Midlength BFH upper with a Battlecomp 1.0 attached. This post is not to bash Battlecomp, in fact it has served me well through thousands of rounds. I may replace it soon though. Im curious if other BC users here have had fireballs or sparkler muzzle flash from their non-SBR BC equipped rifles…
i’ve had occasional (usually first round after a string of rounds and a pause) fireballs with BCs, and other comps as well. when the fireball appears seems more random than not.
This is common with BCs that have some carbon accumulated on them. It is random and nothing prevents it.
I’ve shot several that were like this even with flash suppressed propellant.
Only way to fix it is to upgrade to a Precision Armament EFAB or AFAB 5.56. Only two i know of that really reduce flash as compared to an A2. The EFAB has shown to be as good as some dedicated flash hiders. I love my EFAB.
I would expect to see a review of the EFAB from MrGunsNGear (PlouffeDaddy) of it soon. You can see it in many of his videos over the past several months.
When it was newer I also noticed random fireballs. When I tried out a guy’s SBR equipped with the BC it was unsurprisingly a literal flamethrower
When the weekend comes I’m going to do a thorough cleaning of the rifle. I normally soak the BC in CLP if I even clean it.
Forgot to mention that every single shot from the MFS zinc and XM856 had the same consistent flash signature. I also shot Hornady steel case that didn’t exhibit much flash.
I’ll check out MrGunsnGear’s older videos for the EFAB but I’m likely going back to the A2 or get the BCM comp.
I helped a buddy do this. Soaked it in solvent, scrubbed it, soaked it again over night. Got it really clean. It was doing this again in less than two 30rd magazines.
Haven’t cleaned my EFAB yet, still ZERO flash. Got plenty of Russian ammo through it, too.
Yeah, definitely a random occurrence with the BattleComp. Here is a video of me shooting a full automatic BC equipped rifle for the first time. It’s in the daytime but the flashes are still obvious.
It is not a known issue as yours is the only case besides mine that I know of and there’s probably thousands of these out there. Is yours installed with a crush washer or shims ?
I’d verify concentricity with the bore if possible before doing any thing else. I’m not an armorer or a gunsmith so I am not qualified to give any recommendations.
