Vertical Grip With Storage

I am currently running a KAC vertical grip on one rifle and a Magpul on another. Even though they are quite different, I like, and am comfortable using, both. I am not quite as sensitive to the ergonomics of a vertical grip as some.

Even though I like both, I am looking for a new grip with storage so I can carry a small spare parts kit. I really like the looks of the BCM but, unfortunately, it is not available in OD, the color of all the furniture on my rifles. My only requirements are that it is sturdy, have an easily accessible storage compartment, and is available in OD. What are your recommendations?

I like TangoDown’s VFG (I use the QD stubby) and would also like to have it in OD, but they told me they have no plans to offer that color. I hope to see more manufacturers switch from Foliage to OD green as we (finally) get rid of UCP camo in the Army.

Yes, I could paint it, but the VFG is one of the most “high traffic” surfaces on the rifle and will wear quickly. I’d rather have a base color that works with the overall color scheme even if I end up painting over top of everything.

I don’t see why more manufacturers don’t make OD products anyway. When you look through the picture threads, you rarely see foliage. FDE and basic black are the most popular, but you also see quite a bit of OD, more than of foliage in my estimation.

Agreed. And it is waterproof too boot.

Is color matching really that important? Does it affect your ability to shoot? I have Krylon on VFGs as well and it will hold up pretty good even with repeated use.

A man’s answer to purses and shoes are finally resolved with Foliage vs Dark Earth vs OD green hand stops, collapsing stocks, and rail ladders.

In most instances, color would not be that important, especially important enough to affect your ability to shoot. Unfortunately, I have been clinically diagnosed with a severe case of OCD. While I am not as bad as Monk on TV, little things like my VFG not matching the rest of my gun weigh on my mind to the point that, yes, it could affect my shooting. I hate that I’m like this and understand that such things are frivilous, but there is absolutely nothing I can do about it other than live with it and try to tailor my life to avoid things that don’t fit into my ideal of perfection.

Spray painting is the same way. While the grip may look like it is OD, I would know that underneath, it is not. Again, I know that this sounds a little crazy, and in some regards it is, but there is absolutely nothing that I, my doctors, or councelors have found that aleviates the problem. So, the best solution, for me anyway, is to use an OD VFG.

Get a grip in fde and dye it. Plenty of threads on it.

I have an older Ergo full size QD in OD somewhere around the house, PM me if interested.

OK, after several unsuccessful attempts to use the Advanced Search to find said threads, can you point me to a few? Searching for “dying FDE,” “dying furniture,” and other combinations is turning about about 8 pages of results with no subject lines looking like dedicated threads on the subject. Thanks,

Dave

I think this is the one you’re looking for.
