Are there any manufacturers that produce a vertical grip similar to the KAC that are designed for NON railed hand guards i.e. standard vented plastic carbine guards?
Magpul has one that will be coming out for their MOE handguards. Its flared at the top for added support, and functions well.
No time frame has been given for its release, but it is in the 2010 catalog.
That might be an option soon, but I only have carbine handguards.
Ergo has one. You also could mount a rail to your handguard then get whatever VFG you want.
I plan on picking up the Magpul VFG for my railed handguard when it comes out. Wasn’t a fan of the AFG, but their RFG looks like just the ticket.
How do I mount a rail on my handguard? Do you know of any websites that have/sell the item and give instructions? Do you know when Magpul plans on releasing their VFG?

The RFG and its sibling have a great feel to my hands, and are cheap enough that you can drop them on each of your carbines, or cut it down shorter if desired.
Alot of that doesn’t really help my situation, though…
Grant is selling gi drop in carbine length railed handguards plus panels and vfg for $199 last I checked. That’d be a good option. If I’m not mistaken, id say they’re kac.
I hate to say it, but this is where Tapco and CAA are acceptable stand-ins. You can add a rail that bolts to the vent holes in the handguard for cheap. Just keep in mind, it’s cheap and not up to regular hard use. It’ll let you attach a VFG and a light to play/practice while you save for a rail system. It’s similar to dropping $50 for a cheap red dot sight to play with while you save for an Aimpoint.
That’s pretty good. Someone offered me a KAC M4 RAS and I am saving up for it, but until then, this might work. I was hoping there was maybe a VFG that would bolt directly to one of the holes in my handguard.
Years ago I used an Ergo VFG and rail system attached through my conventional handguards. Although I would classify it as “not bad” it really doesn’t compare to 4-rail systems. It was replaced with an early ARMS rail and Tangodown grip later, which I later ditched for a Troy rail and VFG.
Looking on their site I noticed they had what you’re referring to; a VFG attaching to conventional handguards without a rail.
