VEPR Believe all the Hype

I get the chance to do VEPR rifles from time to time.
They are some of the nicest AK rifles I’ve ever seen.
Once in a while I get to take one all the way with the wood stocks and do a retro twist on it.

They look like a rifle somewhere between a Dragunov and an AK.

I did this rifle to be a showpiece what do you guys think of it?

Not my thing but it looks very pretty. It looks like something from an alternate cold war era where the US and USSR weren’t enemies if that makes sense.

I think I want it.

I like it!

Thanks guys

That is some fine work, sir.
The Virgin Mary herself would be proud to own that rifle.
This takes the AK, nominally an unattractive weapon, and makes it almost as gorgeous as the Marlins you are famous for.

Thank you sir

That is a beautiful piece.

Any pics of .308 VEPRs you’ve “played” with?

Nicely done…except for me I would change the muzzle. I have a super vepr and recently rubbed some tung oil onto the stock

Wow, very nicely done!

Nice work (as always!). Now, if I may ask, what was that scope mount, does it have to be removed to clean the rifle, and will that fit an SKS?

It is a old Russian mount its on the carbine for looks not work.
The aimpoint and mount are just not in the pick so it looks more Russian.

I like it!

Beautiful work Mr. Smith. I do love me some VEPR work. Did you make the buttstock from the original or from scratch? VEPRs and Saigas are definitely my favorite AKs. All need work and some parts replaced but the parts that matter are the best you can buy. I’m happily surprised they can still be found and for OK prices. Not great or cheap like they used to but when someone asks me where to start for an AK I still point them in that direction.

They are great rifles to be sure.
After the 762x39 the 308 is most common around the shop.
Thank you

The wood is from http://ironwooddesigns.com/IWDHome.html his wood has the best workmanship I have used.

Unique and very well done. Good job. I like it.
