Vang Comp Follower

Ok…probably a dumb question.

So I figure I would change out the cheap plastic follower that came stock in my 870, so I order in a VC from Brownells that is shown to fit an 870. I pull the spring, dump out the stock follower…but due to the dimples at the end of the mag tube that holds in the spring plug, the new follower won’t slide into the magazine. I don’t see how the mag tube can be pulled from the receiver…so I’m stumped.

Suggestions for a shotgun newbie would be greatly appreciated…

After further review, this follower isn’t going to work on one of the newer 870’s with the fixed 6 shot magazine.

This follower… doesn’t have the slots that are needed to allow it to slide past the dimples that hold in the spring cap. I’ll just see if I can return this one and get one that’ll work.

You need to drill the dimples out with a drill press regardless of follow used. I have had issues with the VC follower in some of my shotguns. I now use the Nordic one instead.

I’ve been considering one of these but this is the first time I’ve heard of anyone having issues with it. Can you elaborate? I’ve also thought about the GG&G offering which looks very similar.

Well in two guns it would bind up occaisionally now allowing rounds to feed. I replaced the spring thinking that was the issue but the problem persisted until I replaced the follower. They also are thicker and don’t allow as many rounds in the tube as you might otherwise get. On one 870 I have for three gun I got an extra round in the mag when I switched followers. I like the hollow style followers like the nordic that the spring goes inside. They leave the most amount of room for shells in the mag.

I’ve tried the Vang Comp et. al. and I now run the Nordic exclusively in my shotguns.

I like the my GG&G is stainless steel with a bright red aluminum center. So there is no dissimilar metal corrosion potential and I can easily see the red when the gun is empty.

I’d skip the VC.
