Value of USGI Black Hills MK 255 Mod O

Got some Black Hills USGI MK 255 62 Gr RRLP ammo with a Ballistic tip. Read spec on it but know user info our there that I found.
Good for home defense??? WTK current value. Guy I traded with stated ammo was used by US Special Ops for CQB???.
Anyone???

Ballistic tip ammo would not be my first choice but it does work. It doesn’t tend to have the penetration of other ammo but as long as its being shot into flesh it does ok. About 10 years ago I shot a ~150lb doe with a 30-06 BT, and the thing didn’t even take a step…left a huge exit wound, too. I don’t think its too good against hard barriers, heavy bone, etc. BT’s are more for light skinned light boned critters.

I know a guy who shot a large 185lb+ doe a few years back with a 30-06 ballistic tip bullet. It dropped her on the spot(including smashing through two ribs,) and continued through, then entered and did not exit a second, slightly smaller doe who dropped about 50 yards away.

Apparently they were silhouetted just perfectly behind one another to where he did not know the other deer was in the line of fire(or it deflected out of the first one.) Fortunately he had two tags.

The point being that I’ve seen on his deer and with my own that ballistic tip rounds can be exceptionally effective. That being said, I think Belmont31R nailed it when he said that they won’t reliably penetrate barriers…or brush for that matter.

Oh man…that’s crazy!

This may be of some use.

Thanks all I knew it is made and designed for low penetration but was wondering if the heavier weight 62 Gr Vrs the standard 55 Gr made much difference.

also anyone on value of his GI stuff.

Whatever someone wants to pay for it. Since there are no known avenues of civilian sales, this ammo was probably reappropriated from the military.

Probably the guy was a cop on SWAT team and trained at miltary base. Stated he traded regular ball ammo for it when they were just going to punch paper at a range.
Still wondering about value

I know its an old thread. However, for someone who actually owns a case…I think they are Invaluable in the sense that you cannot get it and it is not available to regular folks.
Have only seen it being sold once…and the guy did not know what he had and really undersold it…
NOW you can’t get it.
IF YOU CAN…I want more…

Weird… never heard of Mk 255.

Was reportedly developed for Special Ops use only. I was told it was to used by seals in CQB were recochets may an issue or inside ships. Locations where over penetration may be an issue.
I thought this would perfect for home defense.

Rounds that target those criteria usually aren’t your bet HD pick.
