I have a stripped lower receiver that I would like to mail to my home that is in another state from where I am now. I have searched the USPS site and it appears that it is legal to mail a rifle to one’s self across state lines. I realize that a stripped lower is hardly a rifle, but BATF does categorize it as a firearm for sale and transfer purposes.
It appears that there should be no problem, but I am trying to be careful. Anyone see any potential issue here?
You are allowed to mail a gun to yourself. As far as I can remember its on the ATF FAQ section. You may want to double check on their site.
It is absolutely considered a firearm. They may make you use USPS marked tape on every edge, corner, flap and seam if it’s your own box. Otherwise get one of their boxes. I’ve used them some off/on last couple/few years and they’ve been a little faster for a little less $$ much of the time. Tracking and notification is hit or miss tho.
Since it is a striped lower and can be made into either a rifle or pistol they may not take it.
I would like to see their faces when you bring this small box and tell them it is a rifle.:o

The US Postal Service, USPS, not UPS.
It’s been 3 or 4 yrs ago, but at that time I sold some rifles to private individuals. I had the buyer send me a copy of the FFL license of his local dealer and I mailed the rifle via USPS with the copy of FFL included with the rifle. All I had to do is declare it as a rifle, confirm it was unloaded and they mailed it Priority Mail directly to the FFL/dealer (not the individual). It was no problem at that time.
Now I have no idea if that is still there policy but it wasn’t that long ago that they’d allow LONGARMS to be mailed USPS.
That has been my experience and AFAIK procedures and rules are still the same.
