Using Stripper Clips: Video of USGI Lake City in Ammo Can

I shot this back in March after I was having a tough time finding a clear video on how to use stripper clips with spoons, on USGI mags and Pmags.

So, FWIW, here’s the link.

Thanks, nice video.

Thanks for the video. I like the stripper clips, but really only use them with the “spoon” if I have forgotten my StripLula. I buy the clips new in bulk or used by the carload off ebay for cheap, load 'em up my self rather than buying Lake City.

Here’s a video of the StripLula…works FAR better than the spoon alone.

I would definitely get and use one of those if I got a lot of ammo on stripper clips. I have found that I can load up my Pmags very fast by putting a clip on a spoon then driving them in by using the edge of a bench rest at the range.

The wife thinks that using the edge of a table at home is a bad idea. I don’t get it. Women.

Stop short a round or two and finish by hand so you don’t beat the shit out of your feed lips.

Good advice.

I always get a chuckle out of students and classmates that have never seen or used clips and guides. Some, mouth agape…

“Wow!”
“What’s that?”
“How’d you do that so fast?”
“Where can I get some of those?”

Yes, you can recharge a mag faster than many can open a box.

Old tech with continuously renewed utility.

Rather than pushing down on the stack of cartridges with your fingers, I find it works better to use your thumb. Hook your index finger under the tip of the top round, lift it up slightly. Place your thumb firmly on the top of the cartridge right at its base. Push down. Fwump. They go right in without binding.

Maybe it’s habit from loading rimmed 7.62x54R and .303 via strippers. Tilting the top round up as you load prevents rimlock but I find that it works just as well to prevent binding as you load 5.56 strippers.

One more tip: don’t straighten the tabs of your 5.56 strippers out all the way. Only straighten them to 45 degrees or so, and leave them there. The tabs will last a lot longer and it still holds the ammo securely. Bending the tabs all the way straight and then folding them all the way back repeatedly will break them eventually.

If I take a class again, I may sling a bandolier across my chest and load on the fly between drills. :stuck_out_tongue:

First saw/tried these at annual qualification in the 70s while I was in the AF. We were issued the ammo in bandoliers and they had spoons with them (at least mine did). One look and I knew what they were for. Not claiming to be a genius or anything, that particular mechanical thing was just obvious to me.
Anyway, we were loading 5 rounds per mag and it was easy.
The instructor had people downloading the strippers and single loading mags, but didn’t say anything about me using the spoon. First use and I was a BELIEVER.
I keep 200-300 rounds loaded in strippers (bought 100 from Ammunitiontogo.) They load up quicker than any speed loader I have tried and just as easy. Just remember to put the pressure near the base and the rounds slip right in the mag.

It sure is nice being able to keep a case of ammo on strippers instead of having to have mags for them all.
