Hey all, I am about to buy an Upper that is USED and selling for a great price… this is what it consists of:
LMT 16" Upper with Daniel Defense 12.0 installed (No iron sights) Complete with CMT Bolt Group Assembly and Vortex FH
PRI Gasbuster charging handle & Tango Down panels
Round count approx 1500
My question is what to check for? I’m thinking I should check the Bolt Carry Group, the Barrel possibly but what should I exactly check for and how should I check?
With the Bolt Group, should I automatically upgrade and replace the Bolt with a BCM or EAG Bolt upgrade kit, which includes the Extractor Spring (chrome silicon, heat treated & stress relieved, shot peened), Crane Ind O-Ring, Black Extractor Insert…
I know to check the BCG to see if it is properly staked if not then get it done

Definitely check the gas key to make sure it’s staked correctly. Check the head space to make sure it’s within spec. The barrel should be fine if indeed it only has 1500 rounds through it. One way to tell is to see if it minimally shoots <2MOA. It really should shoot closer to 1 MOA if you have the optics to see that definition.
As far as the extractor upgrade kit, my 16" LMT MRP upper with a mid length gas system hates them. The donut, and high power spring were supposedly designed for barrels shorter than 16". When I installed the upgrade kit, the spent rounds had a hard time making it out of the ejection port, and sometimes caused a FTE. I use the Black Extractor Buffer and a stock spring with zero issues. YMMV. BTW…this was on a perfectly functioning weapon until I tried to fix something that wasn’t broken.
IMHO…if it runs, leave it alone.

Install it on a lower.
Run 90 rounds through it very quickly to get it good and hot.
If it’s got problems, they would likely show up by the 3rd mag.
