US Tavor..."SAR-21" fore-grip info

So…I got a Tavor last week, been out twice with it, reading everything I can, etc. Two things were bugging me that I could not find info on:

  1. what the heck is the 3/4" circle (looks like a button) on the fore-grip - left side?
I just discovered it’s where IWI places a button to activate the laser on the IDF version.

  2. why is there a threaded insert on the bottom of the fore-grip and what is it for - it is not referenced ANYWHERE (that includes the owners AND armorers manual)!?!
Still don’t know officially…but a 10-32 threaded bi-pod stud screws-in perfectly and that what I’m going to use it for…

I do not know for sure, and do not own one, but I would guess that the threaded hole is there for attaching the optional picatinny rail?

The way it’s shaped, I don’t think so. Those I’ve seen have been “custom” attachments. Plus - having a rail there kinda kills it for a grip; unless attaching a vertical.

  1. That’s for the IWI foregrip rail.

You can also buy it directly from IWI

Well, I’m going to correct myself - the threaded insert IS indeed for a stud to attach a bi-pod per Section 8.27 of the IWI Tavor Armorer’s manual.

Guesses aside, the button is there for installing a pressure switch for a light / LASER under the forend.

Yes, you are correct. The MARS optical sight has a pressure pad that slides into that spot, after your remove the plastic puck. The MARS optic originally mounts directly to the gas block, like the current Meprolight sight that mounts to the “IDF” model (avaliable here in the states). Yes, they offered a MARS optic for Picatinny rails, but I believe it works better mounted directly to the gas block.
