Does KAC plan on offering the URX IV installed on factory 5.56 SR-15s sometime in the future? I’m interested in the Mod1, but I’d prefer the URX IV over the 3.1, and don’t know if I might want to consider waiting a bit for other options to become available.
We do – see my post about updates – we are suspending commercial rifle and receiver sales due to the backlog at this time.
The answer to the IF part of that question sounds like a yes.
The answer to the WHEN part of that question sounds like it’s anybody’s guess.
I see the URX-IV being a big part of where they’d be going on the commercial side, but from the sounds of it they’ve only got so many spindles to churn out some big .gov contracts, and the latter takes priority.
I know the URX-4 SR-25 16" Carbine is going to be a thing of beauty, and the 14.5"/MAMS/URX-4 SR-15 carbine will be the spiritual heir to the MagPul Dynamics limited edition stick from a couple years back, but they’ll probably be a ‘good things come in time’ sort of deal; and we’ll probably only get teasers at SHOT '14, and have to stay tuned for the relevant ship dates.
Agreed - I already have my 14.5" URX4 and MAMS on order for my SR15E3. Noticed that Keymod accessories have shown up on the KAC website…already picked up some rail sections. Just need the rail!
Maybe a dumb question, but wtf is part #30750 “keyword belt/molle hook” for??? My only guess is a sling loop slot/point, but it doesn’t appear to mount at the proper angle for a sling/ webbing mount point. ???
I’m guessing its for use with a single point sling to secure the gun to your body.
Stick the hook over your belt or into a MOLLE slot and use your hands for whatever you needed to do.
Oh ok gotcha. It really didn’t appear to be quite long enough to be used in that manner, but could just be the pic.
Back to the original topic, I sure would like to see the first URX IV install onto a mod1 rifle (which previously had a urx 3.1 installed). IIRC, the URX IV comes in slightly different lengths as the mod1’s 3.1 rail…So, is there anyone who knows how the rail swap would work, or has it even been done yet? I’ve been absent from the forums for a while…
Highly recommend a set-screw gas block. Rail length is irrelevant as it is going to cover the gas block.
I’ve installed a few ![]()

So, is it impossible to reinstall the gb pins after the urx4 install? Or just a PIA? Admittedly, I’m a pinned gb kinda guy. I’ll have to watch the YouTube vid again, (which your post just reminded me of F2S!), but I was thinking they could still be punched back in through the keymod slots perhaps? Again, will need to check out the install vid again…
Taper pins are only going to work if you don’t mind drilling the handguard.

KAC makes a new low profile set screw gas block that they recommend for anyone going to the new URX 4 rail. This is why I have held off for the time being, $280 for the URX 4 rail, $108 for the new gas block and $100 plus shipping to send the upper to boltcarrier.com or the like for the swap. Even if you did it yourself you’d still need the $115 URX 2/3/3.1 wrench to remove your current URX rail. In the end you are looking at $500 to swap to the new rail and you’ll still need a key mod sling attachment, and any length of key mod mounted rail for you weapon light or any other item. That’s over $550 to get setup for the URX 4, I think I’ll stay where I am at and wait and purchase a new 14.5" or shorter complete SBR from KAC when they are released with the URX 4 rail.
I guess I’ll have to look at a URX IV again, for the first time in months, as I thought the top rail (where front buis mounts) was still mil std 1913 picatinny. Regardless, I still agree it’s not a rail swap I’d strongly consider. I’m totally satisfied with my 3.1 anyhow, and doubt I’d ever change it. An SR15 mod2 w/URX IV might be a nice addition to the lineup tho.
So I’m presuming that if I hacked up a URX4 to make a FSB version, that I would not be able to re-install the FSB?
