URX II Rail Install/Tool?

I thought I lucked out when I was able to find a URX II that I have been searching for a while. However, it seems like the barrel nut that it came with or uses is an older/different style than the more current and common style.

This is the style barrel nut that I have:

Does anyone know of a source for the tool or have any info/leads they can provide?

Thanks!

I’d give Ayan over at boltcarrier.com a try. If it’s not on his site you should give him a call.

URX 2 Barrel Nut Wrench PN/ 20495

Definitely agree with Will, Ayan is the answer.

Thanks for the suggestions.

That tool is not for the same style nut as the SR25 barrel nut unfortunately. If I could use the newer URX style barrel nuts, the rail would be done and installed on the rifle already.

Was able to find out that Randall at AR15barrels is local to me and has the tool to do the URX install, so I’ll be going with him. I guess that’s one less tool that I’ll be needing to buy. Hopefully I won’t be playing around with set ups too much, so I won’t have to go get it removed/reinstalled again.

Yes the wrench is ridiculously priced and you will be good to go if you can get away from buying one.

If it was $100-$150, it wouldn’t be that bad, but at $300, it’s just not really worth it.

Not sure where you’re seeing it for $300, but if you google the PN, you should find it for much less.

Ayan has it for $116.25…

And since Ayan is out, here it is at Amazon for the same price…

If you’ve found someone to do it for you and don’t plan on using it again, then it may not be worth buying, but I wanted to point you in the right direction anyway.

Thanks for the info, but that’s actually not the correct tool for the SR25 style barrel nut that I have. As you can see the SR25 nut I posted in the original post is a 4 slot type barrel nut, while the tool you posted is for a nut that’s not of the same shape.

Yeah, I’m sorry, I missed your last post about needing the SR25 URX wrench. I agree, I would’t pay $280 either, especially since you found someone to do it for you.

How much is your local guy charging for the install?

ETA: You caught my post before I noticed and edited, I’ll put it back for the sake of keeping the thread in order.

$40 to install. I think if I had to pay $100 to have the install done, I would have just bought the tool for $300.

I got a URXII that had that older nut and replaced it with the newer aluminum one.

That’s interesting cause boltcarrier.com told me on another forum that the nuts are not interchangeable. Also on his site and KAC’s site they both note that the newer style nuts are not for SR25s. Maybe I am missing something? If it’s only going to be $150 for the tool and new but to covert over I wouldn’t mind paying that much and not having to worry about going or paying someone else to have to do it got me in the future again.

To the best of my knowledge, there is only one barrel nut for SR25 URX II and URX 3 rails. The above poster may be referencing the SR15 URX II and it’s barrel nut, which is different, and definitely not interchangeable with the SR25 URX II/3 rails.

Also, aside from being a KAC dealer, Ayan is also a SR25 certified armorer. He knows the platform well.

Mine is a 5.56 rail. When I look at the first post in this thread I do not see any mention of the rail being for an SR25.

I guess I forgot to mention it in the original post, but I did talk about it in a few posts down.

I picked the wrench up for $115 at operation parts…
