Just bought an upper with the URX 3.1 and it’s great but I wanted to get the rail package. So, I ordered it online through their website. Every other manufacturer has something on the website about “Due to the Political Environment all order with be filled whenever we damn well please…” I’m paraphrasing, but you get my point.
However, I ordered the Deluxe kit from KAC on Sunday 1/6 and got it last night 1/10. Unbelievable! Awesome communication as they sent out no less than 4 e-mails to inform me of their process and for tracking the package. Great Service!
The URX panels themselves are great, except, they have odd lengths and there is no way to cover the entirety of the rails. Not a major issue but I would have thought it would have been designed to have the grip panels extend the length of the rail and not leave gaps and voids. I still like the product because its light and works well with the way I present and manipulate the weapon, however, it seems they have left it to “Billy Bob” and his dremel to cut down a long sections or find some other means for bridging the gaps. Not what I would have expected from KAC.
URXIII then 3.1 was originally a government rail. When it was debuted a few years ago, there was a clamor for it. Once we released it commercially folks wanted panels. Unfortunately to the angles on the rail to blending the rail areas into the rest of the handguard the panels where more of a bandaid as Trey likes to point out.
URX4 was designed from the ground up to have seamless rail/accessory panel integration.
While I really like the URX3.1’s I do not run panels as I want the grip area to be as thin as possible to let me get better control of the gun. I run skateboard tape on the sides of my URX3.1
As somebody with bigger paws, I’m really glad for the panel stopgaps solution - it’s the right thickness for me (but bare rails and TROY Ex are the right size for my family members).
I was wondering why the bolt-on rail sections didn’t match with the integrated rail in the front of the 3.1. Good to know and it follows the logic with KAC. Again, first time with a KAC product and I do love the rail. Just means I get an opportunity to “customize”!
