upper and lower slop ideas please

hi there, last week i was cleaning my rifles and i noticed that my rifle has some not much slop it, i then got upset and went to mic-ing the fit the take down pins are under sized, or is it just that way with an m4, i work in aerospace and i have the ability to over analize things, so is the a way to fix it or am i fine, i attached some pics for ref. any ideas, reem the holes while rec. are straped togther and install larger pins?

heres first pic

second, the first shows the amount of slop

ok it wont let me upload the second pic sorry

You’re fine, most ARs have a bit of “slop” or movement between the upper and lower.

Accu-Wedge that bitch.

That’s an unmentionable. You’ll find some discerning opinions about this, personally I’d just leave it.

The simple solution for upper/lower movement is the ‘accu-wedge’ or some version thereof. I’m sure there are other ways to go about it though.

Play between uppers and lowers is actually a good thing. An overly tight AR tends to have more reliability issues.

The ‘accu-wedge’ is a no go. We have seen them break apart and become lodged in the trigger group.

I think someone dropped an accuwedge into the server for this website.

When I got my PK upper last month and stuck it on a RRA lower, it was SO tight that I seriously questioned my ability to get the rifle apart again - it was ridiculous. There are tolerances, and they work both ways.

I lubed the lugs and worked them a bit and they are still very snug but manageable now.

That said, I find slop annoying … but learn to live with it.

thanks to all very much, i am starting to live with it, i half to remember i still shot good groups with it so thanks

Having been a 1911 type for 30+ years tight tolerances were a good thing but the ARs are a whole different ballgame and there is a bit of a learning curve involved. When I first received my "invitation from Uncle Sam many years ago, I was shocked that some of the 16s we had could actually shoot fairly tight groups, I’m talking rifles that were absolute rattle-traps and so beat up that I was almost afraid to pull the trigger but as time went on we just learned to live with it!

Now That’s Funny!!!

The tolerances go both ways. I have a LMT MRP upper and a LMT lower (from a different gun) that are TIGHT. Like…I have to put it together a certain way to even get them together. I keep waiting to hear a POP and see the upper shoot off the lower.

same with me, on the invite from the green machine but now im in aerospace and tolerances…well i live by them being a assy tech and i also have a condition with being to much of a perfectionist sence i built this rifle i have just got some things i would have done diff on the prints is all and small this bother me

I like the o-ring on the front lug better than the accu-wedgie

I saw on another forum where a guy had put a small bead of bondo or epoxy or something on the top of the lower and sone release agent on the bottom of the upper and then closed it holding them apart to take the slop out. I have no idea if this is a good idea or not but I have seen it and it the guy said it worked well for him.

Uhn, now that’s a cool idea. How does it work?

works great…try a few different sizes of o-rings and go with the one that still allows you to move the rear take down pin without a hammer and punch
