Here’s a fun rifle I picked up last week and I had the opportunity to shoot 300 rds thou it last weekend and really enjoyed it!.. The kick was a little more than my AR which was surprising considering that some AK really bite…
I really enjoyed shooting it as it fit good and its surprising really light for a milled receiver / 7.62x39 rifle… I was just screwing around with it on open sights at 100 yards and was quite pleased at the results. No jams / miss feeds at all, it preformed superbly straight out of the box…
However when I got home that Sunday night, I decided I wanted to make a few small adjustments to it, so I jumped on line with my credit card in hand and went to the MAKO group for some upgrades.
I then added on a EoTech and grip pod I had been saving for something…
I’m taking her out this Sunday for another few hundred rounds and some test drills… I’m looking forward to it seeing how accurate she she can be at 100, 200 and 300 yards…

I’ve got a couple of these little gems. One I “tricked out” with the railed handguards, vertical grip/bipod, Aimpoint RDS, etc. (although if kept the folding stock–just added a buttpad and some para cord). On the other, I picked up some wood furniture from a fella over on the AK forum which I dyed and finished myself in a deep red/purple. Looks pretty sharp and the two make a nice pair (kind of an “old school” vs. “tactical” sort of thing). And they’re sweet shooters.
Interesting transformation to say the least. How does it shoot now, over the previous one?
I like the original configuration personally. I think when I get the time to do some research, I’ll replace the upper portion on the forearm with a rail, add a T/H-1, a light, and leave it alone.
This is the only one that I am aware of. It is made my Northeastern Arms and the only place that is distributing it right now is Czechpoint USA. I am getting one of these for my personal VZ.58. Here are two links. One is to the manufacturer (NEA)which is in Canada and the other is to purchase it from Czechpoint USA. Czechpoint USA’s website is down right now so I don’t have the direct link to the rail. You can search the parts and accessories section to find it. I believe it is around $135 or so.
You guys crack me up!.. no offence is taken at all… the guys on Calguns ripped me apart for it… Hahahaaa… I had the remind them that it my gun and I can do anything I want to it…
Don’t get me wrong the stock look is cool but I couldn’t add a sight to it and well once I was on the Mako site one thing let to another… you know how it is… LOL… we’ve all been there at least once… Hahahaa.
I’m actually going out shooting with it in a few hours to see if the stuff helps it… Hey if I can shoot respectfully at 300 -400 yards I’m keeping this stuff, I don’t know / think the Eotech will get me there but I know my ACOG will… either way it should be a fun experiment, if it doesn’t work out, well then I’ll convert it back to stock and sell off the goodies…
Looks are cool but function is a little more important to me at this point, I could hit the 100 yard targets with ease but was having problems reaching out past the 200 yard mark and these rifles are rated at what 600 meters…
I’ll find out in a few hours…

Those rails probably wont hold zero. i highly recommend the NEA top rail instead of that FAB/Mako stuff. Its high quality machined aluminum and its reasonably priced.
-That plastic rail isn’t going to hold zero.
-EOtech’s sit far too high over the bore to be used on anything other than AR-style rifles (or amalgams like the SCAR etc).
Combine the downward sloping stock with the EOtech sitting so high–you don’t even have chin weld, let alone cheek weld. Target acquisition and follow-up shots are gonna be slow as cat piss. Something nice and low like an Aimpoint Micro on a PF base would be far more appropriate and usable.
I’m sorry but that looks awful. The VZ is an excellent rifle right out of the box with little need for anything other that an Ultimak type rail for a T1 IMHO…
I have only seen one example of a converted VZ that looked worth while. I think the company was Rauch or something along those lines.
ETA If you are happy with it then thats all that matters. If you are I’ll happily take that awful old furniture of your hands for a fair price.
Heres mine, sorry for the shitty pictures. Im putting the NEA top rail and a T1/ larue low mount on this puppy once i finish my SPR build. It will cowitness so thats always nice.
It has a 18.6" bbl cause im in Canada :(. It is a very light and handy rifle, with the inline CTR there is almost no muzzle rise or recoil. Has the Rauch adjustable adapter plate for the buffer tube. Factory plastic handguards.

OK… Well I love the rifle… But the aftermarket parts are going…
The stock was set to low for the rifle IMO and I was just not comfortable with it… Don’t get the wrong the shock in the stock WORKED!.. WOW it was like shooting a 22… but unfortunately the accuracy was also like a 22…
I’m going to check into the top rails that others have mentioned as I need a sight for it… Speaking of sights… Well the Eotech was just about worthless on it… Again I’ll be checking into the sights as mentioned above…
Anyway I just wanted to let you know (as much as it kills me!) Hahahaaa
