Its not the rifle they should have gone with…AI AWM .338 Lapua. I dont know why they keep going with the R700 actions. There are many other better actions out there, and among firms in the US the M700 is being used less and less.
The 338 Lapua is a true long range caliber, and a much better case design.
After the deployment of these weapons to leg units, I envision a leg platoon in contact, spraying and praying, runs out of ammo and gets wiped out. Then they’ll switch back.
Not everybody in the mil are gun people. MOST of them are not. I have enough trouble teaching cooks, bakers and candle stick makers how to use the ACOG as it is.
For range estimation, show them the BDC on the targets shoulders method, and most are with me. Show them the milscale and formula, and DURRRRRRRRRRR.
About 30% also seem to have some kind of innate reverse psy when it comes to wind/elev adjustments. “Sooo going down moves it up, right?”
don’t the full auto trigger groups have a much better semi pull/break than the burst groups?
not real clear on the heavy barrel either… guess it may hold up to sustained full auto fire better, but seeing how all the cool guys on this board are going to pencil barrels (with some good reasons too) it’s maybe not the best choice.
THis is interesting. YA, I agree, a HF barrel would be great. Not to mention a better balanced profile and a midlength system but that would mean a full revamp rather than an expedited, across-the-board implementation of an existing system improvement.
They should consider the A5 for carbines as well though if they havent already. It shouldnt be too big of an upgrade but a significant improvement on the system.
They teach plenty of that with any belt fed weapon. I guess for some reason when you take the belt away and add magazines we’re gonna go rambo style blow through our ammo in under a min:rolleyes: Like how libtards think owning guns make a normal person go crazy in the immediate vicinity of a gun
I like how big army doesn’t teach marksmanship beyond 300m except to a small select few… but somehow, someway, a new rifle is going to solve that
Just out of curiosity, why not add to the barrel cooling fins like JP offers? Better heat disipation and just take them off when you add a grenade launcher?
It’s an older foretrex (so yeah gps). the idea of cooling fins, wouldn’t that cause the barrel to resonate? I’m not familiar with what JP offers, so it’s a question.
Just make the fin length 1/2 the wavelength to damp… just kidding-- I really haven’t heard of them affecting accuracy, but I guess it would affect the way it vibrates.
Maybe the ARMY should start with adding 2 or 3 days at the rifle range during bootcamp and extend the range they qual at out to Marine standards 500 meters.
It would get the idea in their heads from the start, build the force from the ground up.
When I was doing weapons traning for my battalion I always tried to push traning at ranges beyond 300 meters I never got approvial. What I ended up doing was taking any Joe that wanted to learn that saw the value and traning them on my own with my own weapons on my own range. In the end they all scored expert on the ARMY quals and it didnt take that long.
Speaking of multicam. I was recently at Bagram Air base and spotted a quite a few females wearing the uniform. Based upon their appearance they were office REMF’s.
I also saw some male REMF’s as well. Kind of makes you wonder why they are being issued the uniforms when personnel who are actually doing stuff still don’t have them.
Must be the same reason every time I left the wire I did so with my A2 rifle and flack vest. While the fobits ran around with their IBAs and decked M4s. NEEDS OF THE ARMY
