upgrade Glock frame?

For $100 I can have Glock replace my gen 2 mod 17 frame with a gen 3 frame. The finger groves and a light rail are the big differences as far as I can tell. Anyone know of anything else? If you have a gen 3 frame do you like it enough to make the switch? For me the rail is the main selling point.

Can you point me to how to do this?

I have a couple Gen 2s, and they’re great, but mounting a light is a PITA, so I’m looking to upgrade to Gen 3.

I had figured I would need to buy a new gun, or at least a new frame. If Glock will exchange them for $100, then that’s terrific.

I’d list 'em for trade in the EE.

It seems like everyone likes the Gen 2s better than the 3s and 4s.

Personally I think the Gen4s have the best grip, followed by the 3…

Could not be easier. Just go the the GlockUSA website, get the phone # and call. Ask about the frame upgrade and they email you the 2 page form. Says it take about 2 weeks. Bada bing. They cannot upgrade to the gen 4 frames as I was told there are enough differences between gen 3 and 4 that the slides are not interchangable. I was going the aftermarket add on accessory rail route but between the rail cost and a gunsmith frame milling charge, it’s much cheaper to swap it out.

Recommend you sell it and just buy a replacement from Glockmeister or GI. There are shooters that actively seek gen2 frames and will snap them up. If you have a transitional gen2 frame with the reinforced rails, they are even more desirable.

What’s the first three letters of your ser#?

I had GLOCK do a frame exchange for me a few years ago. I sent in my Gen2 model 19 and had the factory replace it with a Gen3 railed frame. The original frame was destroyed by GLOCK and replaced with a new, but different serial numbered frame. Needless to say this was all done through an FFL as required… The exchange was smooth and quick by GLOCK- I recommend this route highly.

Has anyone replaced the frame with an aftermarket alloy frame? What did you think? Did you see a marked improvement? Was it worth the cost?

This and usually your money ahead to sell it and buy a new pistol vs paying for the upgrade.

Are you talking about something like the CCF race frames? CCF no longer makes any, but there is an inventory you can buy from. They have a lot of desirable “custom” features. Wish I could offer some experience, but I don’t have any. I think most were running around $500 all said and done so it’s not particularly cheap, but they do look pretty cool! Also the extended beaver tail looks to be perfect.

OP: I say swap it if you like the Gen3 frame better. Me and my fat fingers do not like the finger grooves, but you may be different. $100 is chump change for a better (in your opinion) gun in the scheme of things. But, I hate to see a perfectly good Gen2 frame get destroyed :cray:

I’m not the OP, but the more I think about it, the more I like the idea of keeping my Gen 2s and just buying a new Gen 3 to go along with them. I don’t like to part with guns that work.

My 2¢: I like the Gen 2 for CCW, when I don’t want a light on it. I just want a Gen 3 (probably a G35) as my under-the-bed gun, so that I can put a light on it.

Right now I’m using the CCA add-a-rail, and it works well enough, but it’s bulky and awkward, and it would be handy to have another pistol around…

I wouldn’t do it just because so many people out there want them. You won’t loose money by selling it and buying a new one.
