I purchased an M&P9C a week and a half ago at a gun show.
I went to pick it up today from the pawn shop where it was transfered.
I took it home, stripped it and noticed some wear in spots that shouldnt be worn on a new pistol, or at least i dont THINK they should be worn.
The slide has some wear on it where the slide stop contacts the slide and on the breech there apears to be a scratch or at least an area where there appears to be a small “dimple” in the metal and then next to it a bare silver spot.
Now, im really not the kind of guy that cares all that much about how his pistols or equipment looks, i know this stuff is going to be battered during use but at the same time, im a little worried about the slide marks since that area actually could affect the function of the gun.
I have enclosed some pictures for everyone to look at.
Any advice anyone can offer me in regards to how i should handle this would be greatly appreciated.
PS, i have not fired the gun yet.
PPS, the first picture i have posted is a picture of of my four month old M&P9 with almost 4k rounds through it plus heavy and i mean HEAVY handling. I wrack the slide constantly with snap caps and lock it open yet there appears to be almost no wear on the slide. The middle picture and the bottom picture are of my brand “new” never fired M&P compact.
I bought it from the Florida Gun Exchange at a gun show two weeks ago.
It was then transferred to some seedy hole in the wall pawn shop.
I called the Florida Gun Exchange and the rep that i spoke with spent five minutes trying to “explain” to me that the slide locks back after the last round is stripped from the magazine and fired.
I was stupefied…
I explained to him that i have a full size pistol with 4k rounds through it that exhibits none of the same wear patterns and my NEW pistol is unfired.
His response was:
“Call S&W, we dont handle warranty work”…sigh lol.
I called S&W and i spoke with a really cool technical support rep by the name of Joe. He told me that the slides are hand fitted to the frames and the slide catches, what im seeing is probably filing marks from a gunsmith at the factory.
Now THAT is a much better response. He also said that if there’s ever a problem all i need to do is ship the gun back to them and they will take care of me.
See, that right there is customer service. I love S&W and i really dig my M&P’s. Im going to try and put 500 rounds through the compact this weekend to see how it fares.
IIRC Florida Gun Exchange has a very, very bad reputation.
But, I wouldn’t worry too much about your M&P9c. Get some rounds through it and see how it runs. If you have problems send it back to S&W and they will fix it.
Im definitely going to shoot the pistol this weekend, i really honestly dont care too much about the marks, i just wanted to make sure that they wouldnt inhibit function in any way shape or form, thats all i really care about.
My tools get used and abused, but maintained. I hardly expect them to stay in pristine shape.
Thanks for the replies guys!!! Oh and yes, i love my laptop.
