I regret selling mine ten years ago. Stumbled across a friend of a friend willing to sell. Price has not been negotiated but I am at 550.00 max. I’m typically a glock guy but the 228, hi power, 210, and P7M8 are old favorites of mine. So pass or go for it?
Not sure if I will carry it or have it for the go bag with a bunch of mags and ammo yet.
I sold one last year with an unknown round count, 1 mag, standard sights for $680.

Dang, if you like SIGS that’s a heck of a price. I recently got a LNIB SIG P-225 w/ Trijicon HD NS and 4 new magazines for a bit less than that.
As a Sig 228 Fan I would get it at that price too. Paid $400 for mine years ago and it was used. Hope you can get it for that.

I’d be all over it. Paid $450 for a well used WG P228 last year. New and unfired easily goes for double that amount or more on GB.

Well as it turns out this gun is a German made 228. Unfired or darn near. Test target, tags still on gun, all paperwork, case (padded grey lockable), night sights (still glowing), and two factory 13 round mags.
He is asking 650.00. It’s more than I wanted to spend but oh well my wife is buying it for me for a present. God I love that woman. Time to buy a couple of holsters, some mags, and I will replace the night sights soon I am sure they are dim.

As much love as I have for the P228, the current P229 in 9mm or the M11 are both excellent. A CPO P229 can be had for ~$500, and is functionally almost identical to the P228, just easier to get parts for.
I mean, I wouldn’t MIND having a P228, but I wouldn’t care to pay collector prices for them. Heck, my P229 wears a P228 upper, and is a franken-sig.
All said, $650 isn’t a bad deal for a double proofed west german P228.
Undoubtedly, go for it. I carry primarily a G19/G26, but a Sig P228 is a special handgun. I paid $650 for mine (plus another $50 in sales tax). I overpaid, but I don’t regret it. Mine is a mint German P228 made in 2002 and it is one of my 3 most accurate pistols (SA TRP & STI Trojan 9mm being the most accurate) and it is in all likelihood my most mechanically reliable handgun. It is a handgun that is meant to go the distance. Perhaps some of the experts here can provide you with better data, but I believe in the early 2000’s the RCMP tested a German P226 to 150,000 rounds without failure or parts breakage, as I recall. There’s something to be said for that. Older German Sigs from that era are among the most accurate and reliable handguns ever made by man, and you’re getting a helluva deal.
