That has been gone over time and time and time and time again, and frankly it doesn’t benefit to have a forum where somebody asks the same pretty irrelevant question for the umpteenth time.

No, it was just a silly thread. We’re trying to cut down on that sort of nonsense.
Why was a Moderator allowed to post his Personal opinion after the thread was locked? Nobody else was given that option.
Nobody else has that option. Moderator and staff accounts have the inherent power to post in a locked thread. On several occasions I’ve typed up a response to a thread and posted it only to find that another mod/staffer locked the thread before I hit the submit button. My post still goes in because of the powers granted to my account.
I come here and gain knowledge but the only way I have of determining if that knowledge is credible, is by looking at other posts by the person giving that info. By limiting people to post in GD you have taken away my ability to tell if someone is full of shit.
Personally I don’t see how somebody’s posts in a thread about healthcare legislation or soliciting help in naming their pet frog helps you determine whether or not that person actually knows what they are talking about when they engage in a technical discussion. Generally I find that the nature of their contribution to the discussion outs them as competent or incompetent rather quickly…like the assertion that:

Someone who does not grasp why a sample of 1 is an insufficient basis upon which to make assertions about quality tells me pretty much all I need to know about the value of their contributions on the topic. The entire nature of the post also doesn’t really jive with the purpose and culture of M4C.net which is another good reason for locking it in addition to telling me what I need to know about that person’s value in discussions about quality among AR-15s.
The last time I looked at the voting , the NO’s were well ahead of the YES’s. on the issue of 200 posts.
That thread was about closing GD altogether. 200 post rules were proposed as an alternative to completely closing GD.

No, it just appears that you didn’t really understand what was being discussed in that thread.
Was the outcome predetermined?
No, it was a legit vote. Some of us voted to kill GD. We lost. What has emerged over the last several months is the realization that there are some issues on the forum and that some sort of action is required to keep it from descending into complete irrelevance. Thus the 200 post requirement for GD, and the lock of the thread where somebody is whining about Colt.
It’s hard to have a high quality technical discussion when the forum is being polluted by essentially worthless threads posted because of hurt feelings or gross misunderstandings that a simple search could easily rectify.
It’s good that you came here to gain knowledge…but wouldn’t it be pretty disappointing to find that we had none because everybody with half a brain abandoned the site long ago rather than deal with stupid posts by people who are outside of their lane? In other words, wouldn’t it suck if we allowed bad or silly behavior to drive off everybody that you could actually learn something useful from? I really have no personal interest in a forum that consists of people with limited experience telling each other how awesome their Taurus and high-point firearms are. I’d rather chew glass, cut off my own leg with a chainsaw, or french kiss Whoopie Goldberg.
Sorry if this pisses someone off , but I’m sure I’m not the only one asking these questions.
