My wife has asked me for something light (I have had a penchant to long rails and UBRs) and soft shooting that setup looks really nice.

I am really liking this. I wonder if there is a 10.5 pencil in the work (or one out there already, not sure). A setup like that in a shorty would make a great rifle for my wife. Super light, super kiss.

FWIW, I was HEAVILY considering one of these barrels while mulling over whether to buy or build my first SBR upper. I ended up deciding to get a BCM 12.5" Kino but am thinking that I will probably still build one of these later on.
My first SBR is using a DD 12.5

Quite simple, actually. Unlike all my other ARs, which all have optics and railed handguards. Still, the MOE handguard allows for attaching accessories if I need to.
I bought all the upper parts from G&R and Grant built the upper for no charge.

That’s very cool! I need something like that. The AR that I use, and have used for years is kind of, uh, old fashioned. In fact, most here might laugh if they saw it.

I did one similar to that for my dad.
I built this one out of a Colt 16" A2 pencil barrel upper that I’ve had lying around for a few years and a Mega lower assembled by Holland Gun Works. HGW is now owned by The Arms Room here in Houston and it’s a great local source for these Mega lowers. I got rid of the stock for the original Colt CAR stock (glad I kept that thing), and I replaced the stock handguards with the Magpul MOE guards. BCG is LMT, and it’ll be getting a BCM charging handle and MOE grip soon. Weight as pictured with a full mag of M855 is 7 pounds on the dot. At some point I’d like to see some sort of optic on it, but Dad’s pretty keen on the irons.
I really like the light weight and simplicity of this rifle now that it’s complete, and it’s making me rethink what I want for my own project. In fact, I like it so much I’m going to go shoot the crap out of it tomorrow.
