UGH! Stripped hex head grip screw....help.....

All,
My Colt rail gun came with hex head grip screws and I want to change them out for the regular flat head slotted grip screws. I have only taken the grip panels off once before and I think I tightened the grip screws too much last time I put them back on the gun. Well, one of the hex head grip screws is completely stripped. Any ideas as to how to get it out? Ez out is one that I have not tried yet. I have tried a Torx head bit but no go. Thanks everyone.

I would try a left handed drill bit that fits snug in remaining bolt head. Then I would just bump the trigger on drill to break loose. Idea is remove with drill bit not actually drill head off bolt.

Use a torx bit that is larger than the hex head was. Tap it into the stripped hex with a hammer and turn it out.
Make sure you use a bit driver rather than just a small wrench (a screw driver that can take bits rather than just an “L” shaped wrench)

I cants tell you how many stripped hex heads I’ve freed up using slightly larger torx bits.

ETA: Sorry, never mind, I see you tried this…

This is what I did on a broken hex head on my CRG. Worked like a charm.

Ok, the left handed drill bit I will try. Trying not to go the ez out route.

This must be a somewhat common thing since I had the same issue with my CRG. I ended up cutting a small groove with a file to be able to get a flat head screwdriver into and then lightly heated things up with a heat gun, not super hot, just enough to get things a little warm. Just go slow and try not to damage the grips if you are trying to save them.

Let us know how it turns out

EZ out, if it takes the bushing with it just replace. Be careful drilling a pilot and tape off the frame.

All,
I ended up using the oversized Torx head bit. I whacked into the grip screw with a hammer and used a socket wrench for some leverage. I managed to get it out and save the bushing, only to discover that the other grip screw (on the same grip) was tight enough to work the grip screw bushing out. Man, I can’t catch a break. I have some more grip screws (slotted type) and some more grip screw bushings coming from Brownells so they will all be replaced. I also just ordered some VZ grips “operators” as well, so at least I have something to look forward to. Thank you all for the responses.
