UDE Colt and KACed out KAC carbine

Got a LaRue UDE kit yesterday from a member of another board. Didn’t buy one in the IPO because I didn’t have a pre-ban to use the CTR on (I’m NOT pinning another stock…ever). What I did have was my old trusty Colt SP-1 carbine, my only registered Colt pre-ban. I’ve never tinkered with it because I like it the way it is with its two position aluminum stock, lightweight barrel and really light overall weight. Remember light ARs? Before the madness. They are pretty handy.

I took the Colt parts off and stored them. The UDE kit went right on. Of course, I needed a rail system and as fate would have it, I had a KAC rail that I just removed from the other rifle in this post. Waste not, want not. I really like the feel of the MOE grip. May have to rethink having the finger bump on my MIADs.

I put the rifle up against two familiar colors so you may get a better idea of the UDE shade. That’s a ranger green A-III pack and a Reece Gear carry bag in coyote brown. I really like the color. At the CT SWAT challenge, a few teams had urban grey uniforms which seem like a good color for the cities. This would be a good match.

The second carbine is a KAC SR-15 M4 in post ban configuration. Here it has to stay that way. This has nearly 5000 rds through it with another 2000 more through the lower as I used in on my SPR for a bit. Runs very, very well and is as accurate as it needs to be, even with heavier (69gr) bullets. This despite a 1/9 twist barrel and no M4 ramps. Guess the rifle didn’t know it wasn’t supposed to work well without those.

I got a great deal on a RAS II kit (thanks Trumpet!) and used the stock rail for the Colt shown above. In addition to the rail and the standard KAC parts like the 300m BUIS and two-stage trigger, I added a KAC teardrop triggerguard and a KAC ambi mag release. The ambi is pretty slick. While magazines do drop free, it does seem like it needs a little more spring tension. Finally, I have some KAC anti dive followers. Work as well as Magpuls but are a little spendy at $4.50 each. I’ll stick with Magpul thanks.

And don’t mind the KAC M203 sight. Someone elsewhere wanted a pic of it so I put it on. It is the one that comes with the KAC stand alone kit for the M203. Nice sight but I only use the 203 on one piece rails.

And because Man-Law dictates that every carbine have a LaRue product, a proper RAS II LT Aimpoint mount.

Pinning stocks???
Registered preban???
WTF?

Good to see it worked out for you.

There are some backwards communist states that have state AWB.

Just say NO and move

For a second there I thought that post was from 2003 or something.

Nice rifles…

Yeah, state AWB?

That blows…

If I lived in one of them thar states I think I’d put a little salt on the end of my Colt and eat it.

Thank GOD for the gun loving South!

GEEZER

I always check for new posts from you here and on LF’er. You always have some classy builds. Thanks!

Cohiba,

Did you have that stock pinned by John @ JOJO’s? He said he pinned one & cringed to do it!

Since 2004, I have worked to rid myself of my AR’s acquired from 9/94-9/04 & replace them with old lowers.

I’m in the same boat as you here in CT.

Hey bud,

I recognize your handle from TOS. The CTR on the Colt is not pinned as that is a pre-ban but John has pinned a ton of CTRs. The worst by far was him pinning a UBR, the first and only one I ever saw done.

Still, we have Class III, concealed carry and DDs. If not having a flash hider, bayonet lug or folding stock bothers anyone, we can always buy pre ban lowers. I laugh everytime those in the “free” states stick it to the guys with AWBs by offering pre ban lowers for 4,5,6,7 or $800 bucks or suggest moving. Yeah, I’ll my leave my job and move my family so my stock on a piece of aluminum and steel can telescope. Brilliant! Why didn’t I think of that before?

I love this color. I bought my fde stuff just prior to this hitting the market.:frowning:

turrican, and eguns…pretty tasteless remarks IMO. Way to be sympathetic to our friends who are stuck behind enemy lines.

I was raised in CT, and it really burns me that they probably have the worst state AWB out there. I currently live in Colorado, but I still entertain the thought of moving back home to be closer to my Mother and Sister. It sucks that I would have to make my LMT and my AK AWB complaint to move there  I really do feel for you guys out there, not like you can just move for your hobby. Damn the dirty liberals that ruined it, the Constitution State!!!

What do you guys have for muzzle devices there? I am pretty familiar with the laws so as to know you can’t have more than one evil feature, so I’m curious as to what you guys have on your ban complaint weapons.

Cohiba, great rifles as always. Where did you get the KAC ambi and oversized mag releases?

You can have two or less “evil” features from the list of detachable mag, flash hider, pistol grip, folding stock or threaded barrel (meaning even if you have a muzzle brake, it must be perm attached so you cannot unscrew it leaving a threaded barrel.)

Muzzle brakes are fine as they have an enclosed end. The PWS ones are great because they are excellent brakes with a little bit of flash suppression. There is an ATF letter stating they are not FHs so they are GTG here.

It’s not that bad here as we have no magazine cap limit, we have CCW, CIII and DD. If you get a pre ban lower like I said, you can do whatever you want to it. Most people don’t bother since it’s not worth the cost and the rifle shoots just the same.

Only thing that sucks is that you cannot put a suppressor on a post ban because it is considered a flash hider as well.

See what your missing.

Josh, thanks. I go to Operation Parts for all of my KAC needs. the oversized head is part of the ambi kit. It is a sweet set up.

Yes, really tasteless. Give me a break. It is reality.

I am a SW engineer. I will NOT take a job and move to Mass (used to live and work there), California, NY, Illinois, New Jersey, Maryland, or other liberal places. I choose freedom for me and my family and I also don’t want my tax money supporting liberals and socialists.

I have great sympathy for them. However, if I was in a similar situation, if it was possible (you can always get another job), I would move. Places that have state AWB tend to be more liberal high tax places. I don’t want to live in a high tax liberal places with dumb gun laws and would move if I were there. I may not pull up stakes immediately, but I would actively be looking for a way if possible. People move all the time for new jobs away from family. Sacrifices are made. If cohiba and others want to stay, that is their choice. I won’t try and convince them. But a suggestion that you could move to get away from such crap is not out of line.

Btw, for CT, assuming you can get another job, NH is a reasonable place to move to, since they have no dumb gun laws, low taxes (no state income or sales tax, medium high property tax). You are still close to CT to visit family. Heck, a drive from S. NH to most places in CT is at most 4 hours and could be much less depending on where you are going in CT. For CO, you may not even leave CO in those same 4 hours or less…

I grew up in Mass and have lived in S NH. I know where I would go if I could if I lived in CT. Each persons circumstances are different, and those who choose to live in liberal high tax places know what the downside is as well as any personal upsides…

Now, in Utah, I am planning to move to MT within about 5 years when I can afford to get some land there. I will be moving about 7-9 hours away from Family. But my kids won’t be growing up in a concrete jungle, great gun laws and state – less dumb than Utah even – and all around a plus.

Way to be sympathetic to our friends who are stuck behind enemy lines.

Sometimes you have to make a stand. Your rights or your convenience. I grew up in California and I loved living on the beach but I got the hell out in 99 with my family when they started their banning bullshit. It wasnt easy believe me. I left everything I ever knew. We all make choices.
Glad to see that eguns is not only a great vendor with great service and products but he shares a no surrender attitude with me. I can support that.

Come and get em bitches!
