Got a LaRue UDE kit yesterday from a member of another board. Didn’t buy one in the IPO because I didn’t have a pre-ban to use the CTR on (I’m NOT pinning another stock…ever). What I did have was my old trusty Colt SP-1 carbine, my only registered Colt pre-ban. I’ve never tinkered with it because I like it the way it is with its two position aluminum stock, lightweight barrel and really light overall weight. Remember light ARs? Before the madness.
They are pretty handy.
I took the Colt parts off and stored them. The UDE kit went right on. Of course, I needed a rail system and as fate would have it, I had a KAC rail that I just removed from the other rifle in this post. Waste not, want not. I really like the feel of the MOE grip. May have to rethink having the finger bump on my MIADs.
I put the rifle up against two familiar colors so you may get a better idea of the UDE shade. That’s a ranger green A-III pack and a Reece Gear carry bag in coyote brown. I really like the color. At the CT SWAT challenge, a few teams had urban grey uniforms which seem like a good color for the cities. This would be a good match.

The second carbine is a KAC SR-15 M4 in post ban configuration. Here it has to stay that way. This has nearly 5000 rds through it with another 2000 more through the lower as I used in on my SPR for a bit. Runs very, very well and is as accurate as it needs to be, even with heavier (69gr) bullets. This despite a 1/9 twist barrel and no M4 ramps. Guess the rifle didn’t know it wasn’t supposed to work well without those.
I got a great deal on a RAS II kit (thanks Trumpet!) and used the stock rail for the Colt shown above. In addition to the rail and the standard KAC parts like the 300m BUIS and two-stage trigger, I added a KAC teardrop triggerguard and a KAC ambi mag release. The ambi is pretty slick. While magazines do drop free, it does seem like it needs a little more spring tension. Finally, I have some KAC anti dive followers. Work as well as Magpuls but are a little spendy at $4.50 each. I’ll stick with Magpul thanks.
And don’t mind the KAC M203 sight. Someone elsewhere wanted a pic of it so I put it on. It is the one that comes with the KAC stand alone kit for the M203. Nice sight but I only use the 203 on one piece rails.

And because Man-Law dictates that every carbine have a LaRue product, a proper RAS II LT Aimpoint mount.
