Typical Iraq New Year

Should old ordnance be forgot, just remember that it’s mine…

Agreed. One of my company Gunny’s had a saying which I still use:

“If you don’t care enough about it to put an armed guard over it, you obviously don’t need the sumbitch.”

Happy New Year, thank you for your service and stay safe!

Happy New Year…

The rocket probably was fired unconventionally, i.e. from the back of a truck, and didn’t break the minimum altitude to set off the warning system, or it was fired from outside the AOS for any of the radars on the camp if there were any.

You should see the funny shit that ensues when a freezer door slams and someone runs out to the bunker thinking it’s an IDF attack or you have outgoing 155mm and people clear out of their buildings and run to bunkers.

Anyway, happy new year. Hope you make it back safe.

Happy New Years!!! Be safe over there.

Your post brings back memories. I can’t tell you how many mornings I woke up to “all clear blaring out of the loud speakers”. I never did hear an incoming warning.

im glad no one was hurt also. while in iraq, i got to see some of that as well. its kind of funny actually. everyone runs around like a chicken minus a head for a while. then they relax and carry-on with what they were doing. this one army guy left his rifle in the chow hall once. i remember thinking, “oh man, he may have to throw rocks at the enemy.”

Sometimes you got to do what you got to do.

Happy New Year Ninja stay safe.

May you all come safely back in this New Year.

SEMPER FIDELIS

Are you over at Liberty? I was heading from out MSS to Northend Pizza one day when someone decided to lob a couple at Victory. Believe they actually hit some pods or chow hall or something, but recall there were some foreign nationals killed. Pure chaos over at Liberty.

In our AO they shoot them off of angle iron. The bipod length is predetermined based on the grid they shoot them from. That way, they can pay some idiot to set the rocket up. Much safer for the smart guys.

The thing about last night is that it not only showed a lack of planning, but a lack of mindset. Don’t get me wrong, I do respect the hell out of IDF. I have gone through hundreds of attacks, most notably the “Mahdi March Madness” of 2008 in Baghdad. I haven’t seen a lengthy barrage since 2004. The Bad Guys learned quickly to shoot and skoot, so they don’t get waxed in the process.

The current unit has only been here a few months. Nobody seemed to know that the DFAC was the safest place to be. Some people forgot that this is a war zone and bad things do happen. Heck, they don’t even bother having PTSD classes anymore.

Be careful and good luck in this new year.

Hope you kept your head down and be safe. Talk about a hot reception for my friend who had just got back today.

I have been back from there about two months so far but with my month in europe it feels like I just got back now. Been back a couple of days and I feel bored which is a change from being insanely busy. Although I do miss being there in some ways.

Glad to hear you are safe.

Happy new year.

Just got back from Diyala in September. What a hole. The fucked up thing about that whole mess is that more often than not we couldn’t shoot back.

Me or one of my flunkies “guns are laid.”

Battle captain: “we’ll send CAS or UAV.”

Me to one of my flunkies: “call the FDC and let them know the guns can stand down.”

Not really a paradise when you are stuck in a BDE TOC for a whole year telling units they can’t shoot because what ever excuse they’re wanting to use to fire indirect doesn’t constitute a TIC or their packets are all jacked and need to to be redone. The constant sand storms don’t help either.

CPT so and so: “SSG ******* you have no idea how many fires I have to piss on to put out that you start. Units are calling you an asshole.”

Me: “Yes!”

Glad everyone is safe.

I got there in Feb 08… When the spring IDF rains came the next month, you’d think everyone forgot there was a war going on.

Fence picket for a ramp welded to a car jack… 107s for everyone. Dumb ass savages.
