Templar and The Katar,
I just want to get some clarification on this. This is considered a Type 1 AK47, correct? It is the model that was made before the milled versions went into full production? Is there a source for parts anywhere for one?

Yup, that’s a Type 1, and a late one…they made them from 1949-1951/52.
All the T1’s that I’ve seen pics of have been coming out of Afghanistan, I’m guessing that’s where the Soviets dumped a bunch of their old T1 and T2 rifles on their gov’t allies during their occupation.
Source of parts…not really. Most internals can be made to work, just make sure to headspace any new bolt. Newer bolt carriers should work, hammer, trigger, disconnector, etc.
What other parts do you need?
And actually, the milled guns, the T2 and T3, only came online until they were satisfied that they had the stamping technology right. As soon as they did, which was around 1959, the Soviets went with the AKM.
Pretty neat.
Bet that one could tell some stories.
You don’t see one of those everyday…
Iraqgunz, if you can…could you tell us the story behind your find?
The wood furniture is pretty beat up. I managed to find some new pistol grips and will be scoring those soon enough.
This particular weapon was brought back from Vietnam over 30 years ago. I was also looking for an original Russian or similar FCG.
Shoot me a list of what you’re looking for specifically and I’ll see if I can shake any trees for you.
