Two piece or not Two piece

I have recently changed my idea of how I want to buld my first AR. I was going with all this tacticool stuff but ive really simplified what i want mainly b/c of price and function. My question is would i be better off getting a two piece or a FF for my carbine. im only going to be hanging a VFG and a light off of it. Even though im only going to have a VFG and a light would a FF be better?

If you’re starting from scratch, I don’t see a good reason to not do a free float if you can. You may not “need” it, but I don’t see any downside.

And if you decide some day in the future to use a bipod or something else that puts stress on the barrel, you will be glad you did it.

I am a big fan of one piece FF rail (or even two piece FF rails) simply for the reason that they take stress off the barrel. You would be amazed at the amount of pressure one can deliver with just a VG.

I just took a class w/ Jim Smith and Greg Coker of Spartan Tactical. They were big fans of the Free Float tube, seeing no real downside other then cost.

They report up to a 6moa shift in POI just from sling pressure alone. A VFG(they don’t use them) would probably be about the same. Barricades are worse, IIRC.

I think this is what I am going to go with. http://www.troyind.com/sightandrailpackagepage.htm
