can we at least keep this stuff in GD, if we can’t keep it out completely? I would like to see his final results, the sharing of good/bad experiences, tips, tricks, etc.
So many of these threads have made me avoid M4C. This place used to be full of great info.

It’s the culture we live in now. It comes from the fact that people think that everyone else actually cares what they are doing moment to moment (or should care), and the trend of people pathetically looking for community on the internet (witness TOS) and creepily thinking that other people on an internet forum are their “friends”.
But, you don’t have to read them. I don’t click on threads very often that don’t have a descriptive title. I’ve found that “I need some help” or “opinions wanted” titles usually lead to threads started by people that don’t know shit from brown bread and therefore refuse to acknowledge exactly where that corn stuck in their teeth really came from. On the flipside a thread titled “I need an offset mount for my Surefire G2” was obviously posted by someone that has identified a real need and is trying to address it, and is more likely to be receptive to advice.
I scrolled past the “god help me” thread you link to at least a dozen times on the new topics page and if I hadn’t clicked your link I never would have read it at all.
On a lark I decided to test my theory and click on the next thread title I saw with a generic and non-specific title. the next one down from yours on my screen was Well my wife has given me a choice and I have to choose soon. and it is a perfect example of everything I’m talking about. At least he had the decency to post it in GD though.
Damn, why did I click on your link, Rob? I thought it at least would be, " I need to choose between a 18" SPR and a 7" SBR. HELP!!!"

What bothers me the most, is that knowledgeable members are getting frustrated by the nonsense, and it’s showing in their posts. The responses to real questions are getting less and less informative.

F2S hit the nail on the head below me. Some people don’t know jack…we don’t want to drive them away, we want them to read. Hell, I’m okay with stupid questions up to a point. I only have a problem when shoddy advice is being given, or obvious reading material(stickies) being ignored.
One thing that we need to keep in mind is what made M4Carbine better than anywhere else:
the members
Not the IPs, not the SMEs, not the Mods, not the Staff, not the dealers, not the manufacturers, not the advertisers, and not even the owner. Don’t get me wrong, they all help a great deal and lend experience and data that you won’t find many other places.
But it is the general quality of membership that made this site excel, that attracts the SMEs and IPs. Willingness to learn, to try, to excel, and to share. These traits are infectious, and when the general membership stops helping each other, stops mentoring and teaching each other, we start to have problems.
Let’s not lose that. New members need to understand what this site is about, and old members need to represent what they want.
I’m completely okay with someone not knowing jack…it’s the ones who spout their uninformed crap as if it’s fact that drive me nuts. Well, that, and failure to read ANYTHING prior to getting on here and being butt-hurt that their Oly Plinker isn’t just the same as a Noveske.
I agree with this completely.
As an early member here I was attracted because it was other folks of like-mind and like-station. The fact that there were/are industry. SME, IP, “real life doorkickers” etc. was kind of frankly gravy at most to me. If I wanted to nut-swing on some of those types there are forums out there where that is encouraged (some that appear to be entirely for that). There was a post elsewhere that some “professionals” don’t participate here because of the tenor of some of the posts. So? cops, soldiers, etc. are just as prone to bias as anyone else, and are just as likely to cry “bias” because their darling is being lampooned. If that means they don’t want to participate then that is their choice, but IMHO it shouldn’t matter who signs their paycheck in that case.
I think M4C wants to attract and retain new members regardless of vocation. Just because a cop or soldier has a real, professional, and more pressing need to for the types of things we discuss here doesn’t mean he takes it any more or less seriously than I do, or that he knows any more or less about those topics than I do. I know what works for me and my needs, and he knows what works for him and his needs and what M4C should offer is the opportunity to compare notes and see what we can take from each other.
You can be a douchebag with a badge, or dogtags, or without either one. I think we want to reduce the number of douchebags relative to serious shooters. Personally I don’t care what you do for a living, but if you’re putting several thousand rounds downrange per year in training, practice, and competition, I want to hear from you and I want to learn from you.

I wanted to clarify that this is obviously not the only benefit to having these guys here. I believe my post is clear on this in another portion but I do not want the above to get dissected and become the focus of the discussion.
So if I run across a post where a guy says his brandy new Triple Tap has no muzzle blast and it doesn’t compare to an A2 FH, but he’d run the TT regardless because it’s on Costa’s gun…
Is it acceptable for me to A) call the thread fucking stupid, B) report the post to a mod for being completely goddamn useless or C) shrug and move on.

I guess what I’m wondering is, at what point am I allowed to call stupid stuff, stupid? After all who the F am I? My postcount is low. I happen to know some mods and staff but really I’m just some guy, not an IP or SME.
Post count is pretty irrelevant. I don’t personally think it was a post that should be reported, and I initially was about to post that it was fucking stupid.
In the end I wrote “At least you admit it,” and moved on.
There’s a fine line between making somebody feel like crap, and putting forth the idea that just because something works for someone else doesn’t mean it’s a good idea for you.
