With the process it takes to go through and the cost associated with, I’m having trouble deciding which can to go with. Id like to keep it around $6-800 before the stamp. I keep going back and forth between the AAC 556-sd, SAS eadrum, gemtech halo (the one that goes over birdcage), and silencer co saker/specwar and the K version of each. What do you guys suggest?

saker 762 w/ 556 endcap. reason? after you buy a 556 can you’ll desire a 762 can. if you do go this route, get the 556 endcap with the built in flash hider. good visual indicator of the size of the hole in the end of your can.
When I get around to a dedicated 5.56 can, I’m going with the SpecWar K. I’ll already have the correct muzzle devices (picking up an Omega first), it’s lower cost than the Saker version, seems to meter quieter than the Saker, and SiCo’s warranty and customer service were what made the decision for me.
I have a 5.56 can (Griffin M4SD II) that I’m happy with…but…
If I were looking now I would wait for the Dead Air Sandman S 30 cal to start shipping.

Similar weight and length to a lot of 5.56 cans but gives the 30 option mentioned above. 5.56 end caps will be available as well.
High end/just over your price at $850 but you get multiple calibers so long run it could save you some cash.

I just picked my Specwar K 556 up from the dealer yesterday. It will reside on my 11.5" SBR and 16" lightweight rifles. I got it because the Specwar 762 was a bit heavy for either rifle, though it rocks on my 30 cal guns. I recommend getting the lighter of your options. At 14 oz and 6" the Specwar K feels good on the SBR and still has good published suppression (I hope to shoot it this weekend).
I know the Saker is a great can with the MAAD mount and endcaps, but I had no use for any of that and settled on the Specwar line. I can say that they are built like a tank and suppression with the 762 is excellent. The attachment holds the can on very well and I have no concerns for it walking off.
As my first can (and only rifle can at this point) I went with the Saker 556. I understand why people buy and recommend a .30 cal can as the first one, but when I took a realistic look at my needs I realized I have no use for a .30 cal can right now. I only have two ARs and both are 5.56, and due to budgetary constraints I won’t be moving into any other calibers any time soon. Because of this I didn’t see any point in buying a longer, heavier can as the Saker is already on the beefy side. The only thing I might do differently if I were buying my first can today would be to go with the Saker K, but the K model wasn’t out when I bought mine so that was a non-issue for me.
I own nothing bigger than 556 so a 30cal would be pointless for me at the moment along with added cost and weight. I prefer dedicated cans for each firearm, or at least the ones that get used often.
How does the specwar k sound on an sbr? Il know sbrs are stupid loud so does the k even do much?
Out of what you listed, I’d go with the Saker K or possible Specwar K, the other cans I wouldn’t even consider.
I actually own a 556SD. Whiles it’s a great can and I haven’t experienced the problems plaguing my other AAC can, I actually started a thread a few down from this one too see if many were still experiencing the problems regarding 51t. I wasn’t alone with those issues. Currently kicking tires on Silencerco as well, I really like the ASR mount system.
I am liking the numbers/price of the Sig SRD556 for a dedicated build. Also looking at the Griffin Spartan 3.
If I go brake/FH then the Specwar K looks good. So many choices including AAC Mini.
Someone posted that Gemtech Treks are $295 on gunbroker… Tempting but at 17oz I think too heavy for a direct thread.
I got into a $295 Trek also. The logic I had regarding weight was that my 556 SD was 18oz.
So I’m looking at a 1oz savings. Many forget to consider that weight of the AAC 51t mount, or any QD mount for that matter. My 51t mount weighs 5oz.
So my net gain with the trek was -6oz and almost 1" shorter.
The Specwar K data for an 11.5", 14", and 16" barrels are at around the 1:09 mark. Saker K is in there somewhere too.

Don’t get an AAC can. If I were to get a first rifle can, it would be a specwar K.
If I could start over right now I would have not bought my SpecWar 762.
I originally bought it for my SBR, but once I attached it and shot a few times, I realized I had made a huge mistake (pun intended). The can is so big it is not fun to have on the gun. I ended up going with a Surefire SOCOM 556 RC. Then a 762 Mini. Surefire has in my opinion, the best attachment system and the cans are very durable. They are also very expensive.
The SpecWar sat in the back of the safe collecting dust, until I decided to build a 16" 308 bolt gun.
So what’s the reason for not going with the HALO? Seems to be a tried and true suppressor
Op, what do you want the can to do? Take the edge off? Silence it below a certain level? Keep zero? Qd? Be short/light?
I want it to maintain zero and be as compact as possible without sacrificing too much. I’m not a dB chaser, so as long as it takes the edge off allowing me to at least shoot a few rounds without ear pro I’m happy. I know it’s not hearing safe by most standard, but it’ll help, especially shooting at night. Gotta keep the people happy lol. When it comes to the more quieter suppressed rounds like 22, 45, and 147gr 9mm I’ve heard different rated cans and most I can’t tell the difference anyways unless it’s just garbage
When you say maintain zero, do you mean minimal POI shift, or just simply to shoot accurately while attached? As I understand it, Surefire is among the best with regard to minimizing POI shift. With regard to your other criteria, I would look at the Saker K (shorter) or Specwar K (lighter).
Shoot accurately while attached. I doubt I’ll ever shoot it without the can other than while I’m waiting for approval. I already have the sbr stamp, just no upper yet. I’ve shot a few 556 cans but they were SAS. They might not have been hearing safe according to osha, but it didn’t bother me at all without earpro. Sounded like a .22 shooting cci minimags. How does the specwar K compare to this?
