Researching stuff for my upcoming 6.8 project. Does anyone have the TRX Extreme setup on your weapon and what are your thoughts? I like Daniel Defense but a little too much cash for this hunting AR project.
The barrel on order is a Bison Armory 18", leaning towards an 11" TRX Extreme.
Thanks,
Al
I’ve got two with another one on the way. They initially had some problems with the barrel nuts, but Tom and the guys over at Troy got that figured out in short order and they are GTG. There have been several writeups about both the TRX Extreme and TRX Standard on this and other AR related sites. Google can probably help you find more info.
I’m a DD Omega fan but decided to try the TRX Extreme on my 6.8. So far, it’s working out great. I like the slim feel and light weight. Since I don’t hang all kinds of crap on the gun the small movable pieces of rail work out just fine. One of the criticisms is the lack of a sling attachment point, the rails has tons of holes but none are used for a sling mounting point. I hear they are working on one, for now you could use a rail mounted unit or whatever else you can come up with…overall, I’d buy this rail again without any doubt.
I run a Troy Extreme for 3 gun, here is the 11" model with Noveske SwitchBlock

They are GTG.
C4
got one on my 6.8
like it
I checked out the new WC on Bill’s rifle this weekend
nice one
Thanks guys!
Great looking setup Cold…
TRX Extreme 11" is the one I’m getting.
One more question, would I be able to install an offset mount for a MRD?
Just a heads up.
The extreme uses a proprietary chamber.
I would suggest getting a barrel from another outfit with the SPC II chamber.
![]()
what are you talking about?
a proprietary chamber?
it’s an improvement over the SPCII
I think he is referring to the Bison Armory 6.8 Extreme not the Troy Industries TRX Extreme. One is a 6.8 chambering the other is a handguard.
I know what he was referring to…
he clearly doesn’t know much about the 6.8 and it’s developments
I have the TRX Extreme handguard on my AR15Performance DMR chambered Recon barrel
it uses the same chamber spec (DMR) as the Extreme (sold by both AR15Performance and Titan armory)
I have been involved with the 6.8 for some time and am on my 3rd and handload exclusively for it and very active on the 68forums
Yes, however you need one of the rail sections that Troy makes for the Extreme, I want one to add a bi pod for matches that allow the, but have not found the rails for sale yet.
I assume you want to mount a MRD at the 1:30 position?
didn’t it come with 3 sections?
mine did
Negative.
I had my new 3 gun upper built to my specs and added the Troy along the way.
If you have any interest in parting with one section send me a PM.
Since the DMR-C 6.8 chamber incurs much misinformation (due to people not understanding it for whatever reason) let me post this on the DMR-C
According to AR Performance:
The DMR-C is larger than a SAAMI that shoots all factory ammo that is in spec.
The DMR -C is the same size as the SPCII at the case mouth .308
The DMR-C is the same size at the shoulder as it is at the mouth.308
This comment doesnt make sense! I would consider re-reading your info or question the source of your info …
Bison armory barrels are up to spec and beyond… there has been enough feedback within the “6.8 community” and beyond to solidify the fact that they are shooters… Ben did his homework beforehand and dividends are paying off as a result.
BillBond,
my reaction to your post was over the top and uncalled for.
Please accept my sincere apologies
Bison Armory barrels “graded” out very good, going to have it bead blasted, another 2 weeks for that. Can’t wait to get it in.
Looking at the Troy site it seems you get (2) 3" and (1) 4" rail. I suppose the 2 o’clock vent holes would be the location to attach the rail/mrd.
If you reload or know someone who does you might want to try Tubbs FF as part of the break in. IMO, you would be doing your barrel a favor.
I have even seen people by the kit and send it to someone who does reload to load em up and all they asked in return was the brass.
I had my WOA firelapped with the whole kit as the “break in”… I will continue this with every barrel that I get wether its SS,CL,CN or “Match-Grade”.
You should be very pleased with how smooth accurate and clean your rig runs provided all the fundamentals are in place…
Standing by for a report…
BTW… Bison armory 6.8 barrel specs:
Features:
416 Stainless Steel
SAAMI Spec-II Chamber
4-groove, 1-11" twist
M4 feedramp barrel extension
Mid length gas system
Recon / Light SPR profile
Ops Inc model 12 suppressor collar shelf
They are definately GTG
Troy has them available for sale direct from them. I think they charged me $18 for an extra 4" rail.
