Does anyone here use the Benelli M1 for duty?
Do you consider it reliable enough? Do you use it with a light attached?

I had a Benelli M1S90 about ten years ago that was exceedingly reliable, even with a 6 shot side saddle attached, and standard stock.
As long as I used at least heavy game loads for cheap birdshot training it ran great. Worked with standard 9 pellet 00 buck as well, slugs, definitely a non issue.
Mine likes everthing but low recoil buckshot. WM Federal 100 packs are what I use for practice. Just can’t have the light on with the Federals. Normal buckshot she runs like the proverbial “raped ape”! I’d stake my and my families life on mine.
No. My M1S90 shot everything I bought and shot through it. It would not reliably function with the department issued ammo (Federal low recoil 00 buck) which is the only ammo authorized to carry. Great shotgun and very reliable otherwise. I would not hesitate to carry it on duty with my own ammo (Winchester low recoil 00buck). My experience is that is a case by case basis with each M1S90/ammo combo. YMMV
Mine have been utterly reliable with everything I’ve run through them. Superb combat shotgun.
Mine likes heavy 2 3/4 or 3 inch loads. It has more accessories hanging off of it than I need. That said, I’m going to sell it so if you’re looking for one with a side saddle, M3, ghost rings, big bolt knob and a factory extension, let me know and I will shoot you some pics.

I just shot some light 1oz skeet loads through mine the other day. Worked fine, I use 3" BB or 00 when it’s in the defense kit.
I’ve had mine since 1997 and it has never failed me with low recoil rounds, up to standard, and heavy recoiling ammo. I’d trust my life to mine.
