Start Quicken WillMaker. Note: I used the 2007 version to write these instructions with. Look at the top left of the program screen where it says “Choose a category from the drop-down list” and select “Estate Planning”. Now select “Living Trust - Basic Trust”. Don’t worry about the naming convention here, the program will create a revocable living trust. Then at the bottom click “Create Document”. Select your state and check the box for your marital status and click next. Now decide if you want an individual living trust or a shared living trust. I picked shared. Enter your name and your spouses name as you want them to appear on the trust documents. Both of you will serve as the grantors and the original trustees of your trust.
I hope I’m not asking a dumb question…but I can’t figure this goofy thing out. Any help is much appreciated thank you!
PLUS! When you register your software, you’ll receive a coupon to create a living trust using Nolo’s Online Living Trust for only $1. And as a special bonus, download a free copy of our bestseller, Estate Planning Basics.
I think that would probably work for you, but from the research I have done, I’d prefer to have the software on-hand so that I may manipulate it toward a more NFA-friendly document as I feel the need. Much of that depends on your state and at the end of the day, you still may need to contact a lawyer.
I have not signed my trust yet, but the document is complete and was done through WillMaker, but I added a few clauses after speaking with an attorney that make me feel better about the trust’s validity for NFA stuff.
