Troy TRX extreme rail barrel nut....will it fit over a shaved FSB??

Anyone know if the barrel nut would fit over a shaved FSB? I ask becuase I’m considering getting a BCM 14.5" midlength with the PWS fsc556 perm installed. If I get this and want to run a Troy TRX Extreme I don’t want to have to destroy the FSC556 to do the rail install. If the barrel nut can’t fit over a shaved FSB, it will likely affect my decision.

Thanks for the help.

No. No barrel nut will.

You will be better off getting the 14.5" upper without the permanently attached muzzle device and install the rail system of your choice. Then take it or send it to a competent smith to do the pin/weld job after you have it set-up the way you want it.

That is exactly what Im in the process of doing myself.

yeah…that’s what I was afraid of, but had to ask…it could have been so much easier. gotm4, do you do pin/weld jobs to perm attach muzzle devices? If I add my own, I will likely wait until the AAC 18 tooth break out becomes avaialable so I can use my M41000 on this upper.

Thanks

Ah, ah…MI makes a rail with a 2-pc barrel nut, I believe. If you can stomach a MI rail, that’s one way to get a rail onto a barrel with a pinned flash hider.

IF I go forward with this build I will stick to the Troy Extreme rail. I may not even do it. My 11.5" BCM SBR and my 16" Noveske mid don’t even get used enough IMO. I’m one of those that has enough money to invest in the weapon/ammo/taining, but has little time to invest in the training and practice that i’d like to.

I’d run plastic handguards again before I ran a Troy rail; my first TRX Extreme was out of spec (rail too narrow for KAC sights), and my second wasn’t built properly (helicoil pulled out when I tightened the screws beneath the barrel nut). Having said that, I’ve seen about 8 rails go through the hands of myself and my training buddies, and only 3 have had problems that required return to Troy. You’d probably be fine with one, I guess.

No 1pc barrel nut will. I wouldn’t trust a 2pc barrel nut with my life.

Fair enough; I wouldn’t expect you to. Just pointing out that they do exist.

Standard handguards may be the way yo go if I proceed with this build. It was going to be more of a KISS build with a DD rear sight (no optic…at least right away), and I could always run a light off the FSB. The real question with the limits on time for training/practice is if it’s worth it to invest the $$ in another AR that wont get used as much as I’d like.

Why not have BCM install the rail you want when you buy the upper?

You might also consider a tube from Apex Machine.

not a bad idea

Boy, that looks familiar. Coincidence? Cooperation? Anyone know?

We are in the process of building pretty much the same set up.
BCM MID-14
VTAC TRX 11"
Muzzle options, A2 NFA, A2X, PWS

Should be 2-4 weeks

Above is a 16" LW, but it will look similar

Thanks!

Enough said. ::drools::

Apex makes the tube for BHI.

Cool…Glad to hear it…IF I go forward with this I will just get it the way I want it right up front:D

Couldn’t you just put the barrel nut on from the barrel extension end, rather than the muzzle?

You have several options. Buy the NFA upper then have it pinned with the correct barrel nut, get the BCM that’s close, contact Grant and see what he can do for you, or 4, just get the Troy Alpha rail which uses the standard barrel nut.
