Troy DI handguards

Has anybody used the Troy drop in handguards? they look pretty good and strong… i didnt really wanna get free float cause i dont wanna cut off the delta ring and they are quite a bit more expensive… But the troy ones seem like a good deal. Any other suggestions for drop in? Thanks

You can use the DD Omega and not have to cut off the D-ring and they are FF.

+1

they are awesome, i love mine.

I really like the Troy DI rail. For the price, it is out-freaking-standing.

I think for a drop in FF rail the Omega is definately the best deal out there! Very inexpensive and easy to install.

If a 2 piece non-FF is what you want I think the Troy, MI and Surefire rails are pretty good values too.

I have not used the Troy, but I was sad to see that the QD swivels allow full rotation of the sling.

The Troy 7" MRF-DI is a work of art. Like their BUIS, it’s very well made and well-thought. For the price, it’s difficult to go wrong…

Story of my MRF-DI

I actually got my rail a few weeks ago, but haven’t taken any pics of it yet

It’s a Troy Industries MRF-DI (Modular Rail Forend - Drop In). According to Troy it’s a non-free float rail system - they’re technically right, but their locking system is so fucking sweet, for all intensive porpoises it is free float.

Backstory: I was originally planning to get a Knights Armament RAS, but it isn’t free float. Then I heard about the new Daniel Defense Omega Rail which IS free float. The only things I don’t like about the DD OR is it creates a monolithic appearance , and the price.

At SHOT 2008 I saw the MRF-DI and it blew all the other competition out of the water. It locks to itself unlike the KAC RAS and it doesn’t give a monolithic appearance to the upper. The best part: it does all this at half the cost of the other two rails! $157 shipped

Enough talk, on to the pics!

mounted to my CMMG upper

i think it wants rail covers

note the screws that lock this bitch up tight

next up is a Vickers sling, some KAC rail covers and maybe a VFG

Damn Hoss - nice looking rig. I may be biased because Troy Industries is right down the road from me, (of course so is ARMS and I’m a LaRue user), but seeing and using Troy stuff is believing. My Troy MCS and Troy BUIS are so well made that it defies explanation. It’s good chit…I was going to keep my carbine clan and simple, but your pics of the MRF-DI make we want to abandon that thought…

While the Troy is less expensive than the Omega, it’s not half. You can get the Omega from Grant for about $240 with rail covers and it is FF which adds to the price. But don’t get me wrong I think the Troy DI is definately very nice and a terrific value for it’s cost!

I wish Troy would have designed the DI to accomodate KAC panels. But it still looks like a great value.

I just have to ask, why do you say it’s a free float?

I just installed a FDE Troy DI on my 10.5" LMT upper last week and I am very impressed. The lock up tight and install took me less than five minutes.

Yes, my camera-fu is weak.

Only downer…

I wonder if it’s a home modification possibility…

A few minutes with a steady hand and a small file should do the trick…

I borrowed some KAC panels from a friend and they fit on just fine. i know they didnt fit in the notch, but they were snug enough that i wasn’t worried at all.

i didnt say they were. what i did say was that because the locking mechanism they use is so good, for all practical purposes they are free float.

these are awesome

I need them to lock in. I can’t have them moving if I’m pulling the gun into my shoulder, or when I’m pulling a tight patch thru the barrel from the muzzle end.

I have had two sets of these, rock solid lock up, fit in the grooves no problem, add some blue locktite on the screws and it’s like they are part of the barrel. This is the best rail system you can buy for the ar15 under 150.00 dollars, YHM dose not even compare to the quality… I know this is subjective, but compare yourself…
