I picked up this brake to test for an upcoming SBR (short barrel rifle) build and wanted to test if what I heard about the brake was true. Well, it is. Pros––-greatly reduces the perceived noise level for the shooter and it reduces the blast to those on your side. Cons––-slightly more perceived recoil. There was very little and statistically insignificant difference in bullet performance but the data is posted below.
I should have been more clear, I apologize. It was a slight increase in push back. I was able to stay on target just fine with it but there is a slight increase in recoil. But, if you were looking for an option with less blast directed laterally and toward the shooter this brake will do that.
I don’t have a db meter but I generally wear double ear protection (inserts and ear muffs) but with the Claymore I just used the inserts and it wasn’t loud at all.
For me, I noticed muzzle rise with the Troy muzzle brake which is a reason why I removed and sold it. I did like how the sound/blast was all directed forward though.
