Haven’t heard very much about these in a while. I guess they didn’t offer much in the way of improvements over P-Mags and L5AWM’s, except maybe being more of a “slimline” profile. Anyone running these extensively?
I run the Troy Battle mags. They always drop free, I have no feeding issues with them, and I rate them as reliable as Pmags, not better, not worse but on par with Pmags. I think there are still a lot of people pissed off at Troy for their hiring hijinks a while back. Primary Arms just had a sale on them last month or so and I picked up another 20 of them for $7.99 each.
I’ve owned several Troy Mags and had feeding issues. Thought it was just a bad magazine but I bought more and had the same problem. Everyone else seems to like them, I can only say that my experience was not great.
I have 2 of them I use for range mags. They seem crappier than Magpul mags, but they haven’t given me an issue yet.
I got 3 of them during the price gouging fear attack. I use them for my reloaded training rounds, an easy way to determine what mags have what in them… See a Troy mag, know instantly it has 55gr. fmj pushed by 24gr. of TAC. They pocket really well, and run just fine, but I’m more of a Pmag/Lancer kinda guy.
I picked up about 10 after Sandy Hook. They’ve never given me problems, but I tend to stick to Pmags. They’ve done excellent playing around with stippling.
I’ve got a handfull of them and they’ve always run just fine.
Have one I got a few years back for T&E. Always works during live fire, but occasionally the follower hangs up and misses the bolt catch… but only if I’m hand-cycling the bolt. Not sure why, but it doesn’t bug me. Does what it needs to do when it needs to do it.
I have 6 that I bought during the Sandy Hook panic. I treat them like any other magazine and they perform as they should like any other magazine.

My only gripe with them is the PITA it was to switch out the bottom plate easy grab inserts for thr flush inserts. I don’t believe they are shipped this way anymore though.
Like most stated. Decent mags. I prefer Pmags.
No problems with the 18-20 of them I have.
I like them. I use them a lot when I shoot SCAR, on account of not being able to use Gen2 Pmags. I’ve yet to have a malfunction, or any reason to distrust them.
Bought one on a lark. Here are my results:
I bought a Troy magazine to test. It was new in the wrapper, purchased from SWFA, roughly 2 weeks ago.
The rifle I tested it in has literally NEVER malfunctioned (several thousand rounds suppressed and unsuppressed).
I ran 200 rounds through the Troy, using Perfecta and American Eagle .223 ammunition.
I had 4-5 bolt-over-base malfunctions which resulted in very mangled rounds.
This was suppressed with a Surefire 556-212 on a 16.1" DDM4 middy with a Colt action spring (new as of 500 rounds ago), and an “H” buffer.
It was clear that the BCG was out-running the magazine.
FFWD to the next day, when I grabbed a PMAG and went out and shot. I was loading the PMAG when I got to round 22 or 23, and rounds began popping out of the Gen 3 (M3) PMAG. It was then that I realized that I had grabbed one of my destructive-testing magazines. I also recalled that the Magpul rep on here said “If you can cram it into the mag-well, it’s gonna work!” Well, I took his words to task.
Guess what? It worked. Not a single bolt-over-base malfunction (or double-feed or any other) in over 100 rounds. I had to cram the magazine into the mag-well while “pinching the top together” when loaded with 30 rounds, but once in, it worked as an unbroken PMAG would have.
Color me impressed.
*Yes, I know the fix is to use an H2 buffer.
I bought a 3 pack of Troy mags last year at the local gun show new for ten bucks. I shot one with an AK like they do in the video by Troy but mine wouldn’t work afterwards. I shot the second Troy mag with one of my ARs and that mag never worked again. The third mag I use at the range and it’s worked for a couple thousand rounds. I still prefer USGI, Lancer and Pmags.
I bought some of them back in 2012 as an alternative to Pmags because they stack flat, and don’t have the protruding lip on the baseplate. At the time I was using mag pouches that stacked 3 mags on top of each other, which they worked a lot better in. They have always ran great. I agree with whoever said that they are just as good as, but not better than Pmags… unless you have a particular need for them to stack flat, in which case they have an edge. Of course Lancers stack flat too… those are my current front line mags. Anyway I now use taco pouches, so stacking flat isn’t an issue anymore. If the price is right, I might buy more of the Battlemags if it wasn’t for Troy employing an unapologetic Ruby Ridge JBT who defended Lon Horiuchi.
