Trouble with detachable handle sight!

This is a slightly embarassing story, but I’m going to bare my soul and ask for help.

Just finished assembling a new M4 configuration AR, Bravo Company upper assembly, LMT bolt and carrier, etc. Everything is first class, functions like a charm…but…my detachable sight handle is way off the to the left.

When you look “over” the sight handle, front sight post looks crooked. That had me really upset.

Took off handle, set up rifle in vice, leveled, Picitinny rail, dropped a plumb bob from ceiling lined up with center of muzzle and placed vertical t-square on rail. Guess what? Front sight post is as close to perfect as you can get!

Close examination of detachable sight handle indicates that it is a complete POS! (Why wasn’t I more diligent?)

Now, I’m an experience shooter, competitor, builder, etc. but I fell for the oldest trick in the world. Picked up the sight at a gun show for an “amazing low price” of $20.00! When I was cleaning it and the paint started to come off with my Hoppes, that should have been an indication that something was not right!

Well, bottom line is , sight is junk. I need a new, top drawer, absolutely mill-spec, as good as you can get, blah, blah, blah…sight handle .

Here’s where I need your help.

Who has had experience and can recommend brands and sources. I just want the “standard” handle…nothing off the beaten path. This is a “keep it simple” build…but first class.

I could write the book on “buyer beware”, but I fell for this one. Please be easy on me!

Plenty of people remove them from thier 6920’s to add an optic. You can always find folks selling them on the cheap (or cutting them for BUIS). The Colt carry handle is quality. I actually use mine.

I bet there are a few here that have one laying around.

I looked arround and found a Colt carry handle for $70 once. Look for a forge mark from a reputable forgery to be sure it’s forged instead of cast. The mark will usually be in front of the rear sight cut-out. The cast handles are usually painted like the one you got, and they are pot metal junk. Good quality forged handles will be hard coat annodized like your reciever. Also try the EE, I often see them for sale there.

I use a SPikes Tactical A2 rear sight/carry handle on my SBR and fit and finish is top notch. I would only use a SPikes sight or a BCM sight. The fit and finish on the last few Colt sights Ive seen were really rough. They will work great but casting flaws are much less on the Spikes and BCM…

Hope you learned your lesson in buying gunshow junk. Most of that crap is airsoft, made in China, etc.

If I had a dollar for every post Ive ever read of someone buying some “no name but for a great price” part at a gunshow that turned out to be total junk Id be able to buy a complete gun with the money.

Stick to ordering online from reputable sources, and you’ll be GTG.
